I can see the need for Thompson in that afaia there's no off spinner on the club's books. The only way we'll develop any spinner though is to be patient and persist with one. And spend their winters playing and developing on the subcontinent.

My bad, should have realised he was in the IPL. Thing is, he wasn't an India regular till the recent England series and Jadeja getting crocked. He's India's third choice spinner.IPL and currently involved with India set up so unlikely to get him for anymore than a short stint when it suites him as the dough Durham can offer is irrelevant to a regular Indian international.
If you are going down that route you need to find the 2021 version of Axar Patel and that is the challenge.
Durham are helping Bedingham apply for a British passport so yes, once he gets that. Look no further than Axar Patel, 18 wickets in 4 matches at an average of 13.05 in 2018.
I find it difficult to understand the way Trevaskis appears to have been written off as a viable option in championship cricket.I don't think he is ever going to be an attacking spinner who bowls sides out but as he has shown in one day cricket he can be a very effective bowler in a defensive way and is not easy to milk and can also score useful runs. The signing of Thomson on loan makes Trevaskis standing at the club even more uncertain.
By no means do I think he is a nailed on starter but along with Potts ( who if you include Wood is currently the 7th choice seamer) Iam surprised at their lack of opportunities to play championship cricket especially after the way they have performed in the one day stuff.

There are a ton of Indian spinners (e.g Yadav, Chahal, Chawla as well as Patel) chasing two slots in the touring team for August and September. There are also Australian spinners like Zampla and Agar who might want to stake a claim as Gary's understudy for the Ashes. Any of them would be additionally useful in the Blast.
Not sure precisely but SB mentioned on County Natters they were trying to get him a passport. He has British ancestry and was previously on an ancestry visa so presumably one of his parents held British citizenship at some point. There's also a technicality where you can make yourself stateless and pay £1,500 so maybe they are looking into that. Last resort is through ILR but this takes five years.Whats this crack? how would he be eligile for a passport? I missed this stuff
Noticed the name LM Benkenstein when I was scouring the games on Match Centre. No mentions of his name either through Dale or SussexI've found our young spinner.

I was going to say Agar was a great shout but I've just looked at his first class record and it's very similar to Ryan Pringle's (who I didn't realise was 29).My bad, should have realised he was in the IPL.
