No one is criticising a fan for supporting a club that has won nothing. On that example you are in the same bracket as fans of Sunderland, Leyton Orient, Hartlepool and many other clubs.

However unlike every other club that has won nothing in 30 years, other fans realise that they have no right to expect success. Other fans realise that having a stable club is something to cherish.
Newcastle fans of the last 30 years however seem to think the club are underperforming (which history shows is not the case. In the 90s you overperformed and nearly went under as a result). They seem to think that the club is special (it's no more special than similar sized clubs).

I dont wish ill on any club, but Newcastle need a wakeup call like many other big clubs have had. Maybe then you might realise that Mike Ashley isn't the bad guy you all make him out to be, just because he won't run his business the way the fans expect.
Good post. I know quite a few Mags who are decent people and who I can have good discussions about football and our teams.
However they have a load of disillusioned knackers as fans.

I know a few as well. But even among them, they buy into the "Ashley out" thing when relegation becomes a possibility.

They'll blame players when you watch a match, but will never blame them for the overall struggle of the team. Its always Ashley/Charnley or the manager. Never the players.

I have known a mag for almost 40 years and regularly had a few beers in the past and he is, and always has been a bit eccentric.

A few years ago, he told me he would gladly “do time for killing Ashley “

Horrendously amazing.

See, I sort of got this argument say 2008-2012.

You're right, historically, Keegan & Robson eras were a blip. A glimmer at what the club could be at its peak when spending big in a largely unsustainable way (less so under Robson). I think post Shepherd there was certainly a large portion of supporters that had become accustomed to that level of ambition/achievement, call it whatever, and so became expectant.

I think that's changed. I think it's changed drastically in fact. I think the giant hole I see in the 'you lot expect too much' argument is Rafa Benitez. We didn't suddenly rocket up the table under him. He didn't talk about bringing the Champions League nights back to St James' Park. He only ever sold it as, 'I want to get better every year. We stayed up, great, now let's go for mid-table.'

It wasn't even a promise we would get better, just that we'd try. Solomon Rondon is thriving? Let's get him signed. Nah let's spunk £40m on a random lad from the Bundesliga.

I'm never convinced we're trying to get better under Ashley. He's a bad landlord. Penny shy and pound foolish.

I'm not someone that demands we spend hundreds of millions on players. I'm happy with a club that's well run and tries. Look at how things have changed for you under KLD. The professionalism has jumped sevenfold. Now look at our lads cooling down in f***ing paddling pools. A stadium that needs repair. I'm not for one moment pitching we've had it harder than you. Your decline was depressing and one only a few clubs have ever witnessed. I also believe you're now through the thick end of it. Your malaise under Stewart became less about where you were and more about who you were. That's the position we're in.

I mean tbf, there's only so many times you can slate Joselu or Gayle for missing a chance before you realise they didn't sign themselves or offer themselves new contracts.

Tbf, most are clueless, and many actually are post 92ers who won't have heard of Willie McFaul, Jim iley, Joe harvey, pop Robson, Wyn davies or Jackie Sinclair.
Wolfwanker is a typical mag who lives his whole life thru nufc, and will spin a handful of good placed finishes in to a "golden era" ignoring the very poor placed finishes, embarrassing cup defeats to the likes of Luton, Bilbao, Zagreb, Notts Forest, and, the fact that they were the Chelsea of the time spending a fortune on players and, managers and winning the square root of fuck all.
Embarrassing crack from an absolute whopper, in fact I'd go as far to say he's the biggest ever embarrassing mag ever to infest this board and there's been plenty of spunktrumpet rivals.
Class. I will use that at some point today.

Have a like ya mag ####
Post 1992ers ?
So a "new" Newcastle fan would be a fan for 30 years by now.
If they jumped on the the 92ers band wagon to be glory hunters and are still fans, well fair play to them tbh.
I reckon they would have heard of the players you mentioned if they have been fans for 30 years.
BTW..
Jim Iley played for Newcastle from 1962-69
Pop Robson 1962-71
Wyn Davies 1966-71
Jackie Sinclair 1969-89
Willie McFaul 1966-75
Most fans of a club who have stuck by them for 30 years would have at some time researched their history.

I don't understand how slagging off a fan for being a fan for 30 years of a club that has won nothing is bad ?
You don't get it do you ? Never mind.

Dear me @Luna17 a Sunderland fan mocking Newcastle for numerous 6th 4th 3rd and 2nd place finishes as well as playing the likes of Bilbao, Monaco and in the champions league when you lot haven’t even had one top 6 finish in half a century and played 4 games in Europe in your history!

It isn’t no golden period no but it’s a lot better period than you lot have ever had certainly in any of our lifetimes which is what we are comparing it to

Imagine knocking our spell in the 90s/early 90s when your highest finish in the last 45 years is 7th ffs without a single game in Europe :oops:

Over half your history without a domestic trophy.

We'd need to go without one until 2067 to match that!:oops:

I actually don't mind @Wolfbeard he doesn't make any pretence about anything, he's just a straight up mag bastard
Cheers. I just speak my mind ( not always right and I suppose I am a 92er seen as I followed us from 94) and can give it and definitely take it! I also at times laugh and mock some things we do and occasionally have said some half decent words about you lot too.

Suppose I just try to explain some of the reasons why we are like we are from our side. Also I even said last night and in the past we are never happy as I can remember shepherd getting hounded out when we were a European team and sir Bobby after coming 5th

That argument falls down when you realise we have Steve Bruce as manager in 2021 ffs

He just doesn't get it.
He comes on spouting about how glorious they've been but surprise surprise the FACTS don't back up what he erroneously states.
He then tries to wriggle out of it by ridiculing Safc's lack of comparable "success" when it's he who comes on an Safc supporters board bigging the twats up.
What an absolute bell end.
Another thick as whale spunk, sad mag whopper.

And yet the likes of Blackburn and Leicester blow you out the water of irrelevance in football by winning the premier League

Well yes if they were mocking us it would be different then. However this is about Newcastle and Sunderland and you lot are in no position to mock us for loads of top 6 finishes when you haven’t managed one for half a century ffs

2nd is nowhere. 3rd, 4th,5th and 6th are nowhere. We finished 2nd in the 1985 and 2014 League Cups, we lost. We came 2nd in the 1992 FA Cup, we lost. But we came 1st in the 1973 FA Cup that meant we were WINNERS. This happened in my lifetime, only people over 70 can remember NUFC winning the League, the FA Cup or the League Cup. And as for your European games they were failures as well as you didn't win the trophy. And before you reply the Inter Cities Fairs Cup is not recognised by UEFA as a major trophy and you only "qualified" as there were 2 teams that actually qualified from the same City (London) and that was not allowed so you "qualified" by default.

We know where we stand in the football world. Do you ?

Yes. Not as high as we once were and I’m not as deluded as we think but certainly a lot higher than you lot which is all we have to grasp too until Ashley leaves

We see ourselves as a bigger club than Villa, Leeds, Sheff wed etc whereas you lot see yourselves as inferior to them I think

Some on par with Barcelona and Real Madrid :).

I just often ask which club would average above 30k after years of shite and dropping like a stone as we did .

The loyal band does for me. Never fan of glory hunters turning up just to watch opposition "star players" so guess Championship would do me.

I don’t see us as inferior to anyone. Nothing wrong with being ambitious, but it’s the self entitlement with some of your lot that pisses people off. I want us in the Premier League, but I accept where we are at present and know it’s going to take a while. It’s the way you lot go on - the cliches about cathedrals and number 9s and all of that shite that bugs people. Fans of every club will face disappointment at some stage, but no-one else goes on like you lot. The bedsheets, cabbages on sticks, lobbying an MP to discuss you in Westminster ffs. It’s not about being “bigger” or “inferior”, it’s about acknowledging where you currently are. You played some games in the Champions League - so what? You made the numbers up like most of the cannon fodder in that competition now, along with clubs Like Rosenborg and Salzburg. I always wonder if you go on Liverpool and Man Utd forums to brag about your European successes. And please don’t say this is just about comparisons to us, because you’ve quoted other teams there, all of which have won trophies since you have.

Imagine being a current premier league club but having to go back to the last century to big yourself up on a league 1 clubs message board
embarrassing 😳😳😳😳😳

Villa have won the trophy you bang on about only qualifying for man. That's delusion on your part. Nevermind their superior domestic record.

The other two fair enough, I kinda think we're bigger than both of them as well, especially Sheff Wed. Leeds have never averaged 40,000 crowds once in their history!

You’ll never be as big as Villa, Villa have actually won stuff including UEFA recognised trophies. Same with Leeds.

You finished 2nd 25 years ago, get over it and understand where you are now, your natural league position.

What were you going to say to Masters btw? He would’ve laughed in your face at how sad you are. Imagine actually paying money to travel to London because the nasty man at the PL wouldn’t let the bong eyed tyre kicker and the murdering Saudi pirates take over. If you actually have a family or children, I feel sorry for them as you’re a complete failure and embarrassment. Now fuck off.
