I don't buy that. I think Ashley wants the deal and is the one trying to keep it alive for reasons I've outlined previously.
He was offering 10,000 free tickets before COVID hit. A substantial majority of people have become numb to it all. COVID has broken the sense of obligation, and I know many aren't going back until something changes.
To that end, Rafa Benitez was a sticking plaster. It was easy to convince yourself that there was something to invest in - even a bit of entertainment in those last six months.
A bit like yourselves, we'll always get upwards of 20k, I reckon, but the attendances will now start to dwindle, and I don't blame them. It's one thing to stick loyal to your club through sun and rain, but there's a point where that is taken for granted.

Good article and this is why arbuckle has to be chased out of the city once and for all. What does it say about a bloke who waddles into newcastle and just decides to do what he wants with the club irrelevant of every supporter in the land. He has systematically brought the city and the club to its knees and he has been allowed to do it without a murmur from the f.a or epl, and they have the cheek to preside over who owns us next !!!! Hypocrisy at its highest......."

I wonder if Jossy B can explain how Mike has brought the City and the club to its knees?

It'll take more than a vague suggestion of a possible revival of that bid to get bums on seats if Bruce is still in charge. They had to throw 10k free 1/2 season tickets at people, couple that with the turgid football we've seen under Bruce and the uncertainty of post-pandemic Britain, I'd be surprised if we had 40k in the stadium at the beginning of the season, which will only dwindle as Bruce-ball drives them away.

The use of 'to its knees' is a very emotional turn of phrase, but in pure business terms, you can't say Ashley's tenure has been a success.

We've been relegated on two (potentially three) occasions and spent the majority of his tenure fighting relegation. Our commercial revenue has stagnated during a boom period for the Premier League - the one area I'd have hoped he could improve. The money you say he's invested has come as a direct consequence of his poor decision-making, and that money has only ever been loaned to us - we have to pay it back, meaning our debt has increased. We've lost out on sponsorship money in the past so he could throw his Sports Direct signs up.

Our infrastructure hasn't improved at all during his 14 years in charge but for a lick of paint at the training ground. We are a Premier League club in name only right now. Forget the Saudis, whoever buys this club has a lot of work to do to get it anywhere near being a functional club. We've been overtaken by Bournemouth and Huddersfield.

And in a few months we'll be in the same league as Huddersfield and potentially below Bournemouth. The difference is they both have brand spanking new training centres.

I literally cited two clubs outside of the top six that have improved their training grounds. Ours is comfortably the worst in the Premier League and there are Championship sides with better options.

Nope you said that through the majority of his tenure you have been fighting relegation and are claiming you are hard done by. Like you think you deserve more, you dont. You are an ordinary club.

I've been to yours and its really nice. Imagine if we dropped into League One (I know, amazing) and we had a better training ground than you and had better academy players coming through who were being bought off by Man Utd and Arsenal. The Premier League status can change with a bad season, it's those legacy investments he's never made.
