Too many ifs and buts to even start to hazard a guess. For example, if Wilson stayed he would surely be prolific in the Championship. Perhaps even Linton.

Right now the bookies have Newcastle as 8/11 to go down, or 58%, so not all lost yet.

I'm not sure how, as a Newcastle fan, he could watch his team get given a football lesson by a weakened Brentford team earlier this season, and still think that they're going to be comfortably promoted. They'll obviously be up there, but the top of the Championship has a number of smaller teams with fully-fleshed out footballing philosophies that they have worked on for years. Teams whose only real aim was PL survival at all costs have tended to find life more difficult in the past few seasons after they went down.

Of course, they'll be up there, I just can't see a walkover though. I'd say their squad is probably somewhere between Watford and Bournemouth, and it's between those positions where I'd expect them to be.

Those quotes look ridiculous out of context, but when you read on, he does provide context. He's not mocking Tottenham. He's pointing out that they have a manager like Mourinho who has been deemed not good enough for them, despite them "only" having a few top four finishes and a couple of league cups in the premier league era.
He then points out that Tottenham fans don't get any stick for high expectations, but Newcastle fans do get stick for having high expectations because we want a better manager than Steve Bruce.

I take it you are aware that Spurs have a turnover of around £200m more than Newcastle, recently finished top 4, appeared in a Champions League final and have actually won domestic honours which were watched on colour TV. Despite him winning trophies at other clubs, they want Mourinho out because his style of football is boring and negative and they want to be entertained. Without access to obscene amounts of cash, Mourinho would struggle now at any club. Does this sound familiar?

Their fans aren’t deluded, they just don’t live in the past and worship a man because of what he achieved elsewhere. I suppose that’s probably the difference between supporters of a big club and those who want to be a big club.
