NUFC thread 2021.

I'm definitely not.

That's why I laughed at this thread a bit, the Benitez stuff is very binary.

Look I liked Benitez a lot I really did, I'd have him back in a heartbeat. Truth is by that point McClaren had put too many holes in the boat. I don't think anyone was going to save us. You could have swapped him and Sam around the outcome would have been the same. Allardyce had a transfer window and several months on him to get prepared.
Can I ask, did you support the murdering Saudi terrorists bid?

I definitely did not.

I want a takeover more than anything too. I hate what Ashley has done to the club, I imagine in the same way you lot hated Donald and to a lesser extent Short. I also don't want my club to became some weird pawn in a geopolitical game. By the same token, I know that there are very few owners with a clean record, but I have no desire to start grading crimes or making out like one excuses the other. There are a lot of boring political elements to this I won't get into, but safe to say no I didn't.

The thing with Stavely is I don't know her from Adam. I only have become aware of her due to her work buying clubs. As soon as her first attempt fell flat I started to sense something was a bit off - I'd had Liverpool friends tell me she wasn't all she seemed. To that end, I think she's played a strong PR game throughout this. At first, I thought it was so she could strong-arm Ashley into a sale, but she's paying his price, so I think it was because she knew the league would have an issue with it. The talk of investing in the region etc while something that is desperately needed shouldn't come in this way. While many jumped for joy with that, it just reminded me how much we've been fucked over by this government, the same ones who tried to force the deal through behind closed doors.

It might still go ahead, I don't know, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Until then, I've got to watch that cabbage relegate us.

Small time? Think again who you’re calling small time, you daft ****, You’re posting on our messageboard, day after day giving it the biggin about stuff that happened 25 years ago. We live rent free in your head, 24/7 day after day. I bet you went out of your way last week to watch us at Wembley (again).

What a Sad sad life you must have, in your bed sit in the arse end of County Durham. You’re a waste of oxygen.
Yes small time. Any set of fans getting excited about the efl trophy are small time. The only ones I’ve seen get giddy about it is you lot and a couple of league 2 sides. Imagine what you lot would be saying if we were even playing in such a low tinpot cup never mind getting excited about it. Fortunately we never have or never will be shit and small time enough to play in it

we got excited about playing champions league a level you never have or ever will reach and there’s you lot in a 3rd an 4th division cup you should be embarrassed, have some self awareness ffs. And yes small time as you are currently in a league below luton town man.
I find it mental you want to be thought of as equal beings as NUFC yet you go on like that over the efl trophy no wonder you get called sad mackem bastards and small time. Try getting back in the PL and filling your stadium for once and making European football for the first time in half a century then we might take you lot seriously

Some cracking arguments in this thread from both sides of the divide.

I'm a dirty Mag - disgusting, I know - but I'd routinely have uncles trying to take me to a Sunderland game or convince me I'd rather have a red and white shirt for Christmas, so I don't hate you lot, I just want to beat you in the derby. Hence why I signed up. I like to check in on your results and chat a bit of footy.

The Benitez argument is old hat. Aye, he was the one that took us down, and if he'd had two more games, or been appointed earlier he'd have kept us up. The problem is football doesn't run on ifs and buts, if it did you'd still be in the Premier League and we'd have won the thing in the 90s. He did also spend a lot in the Championship, after selling a lot. What I think he did well was bond the squad together quickly. You saw when you came in to League One that it takes time usually to get that sync. He did it quickly while managing the pressure of needing to get up at the first-time of asking - failure to do that would have been embarrassing.

His football wasn't sparkling when we came up - but it didn't need to be, it needed to be pragmatic. I did think his last six months had some genuinely brilliant performances. You could see what he was trying to shift towards - quick counter-attacking football.

Also, while I could unpick his motivations for doing so, I quite liked that he told Ashley what for in the press. Give me that over a spineless sod like Bruce any day of the week. Geordie my arse. He blamed that for not working with you lot, and I saw enough of those games -the derby springs to mind- as proof that it had nothing to do with it.

Anyway, for what it's worth, I think we'll meet next season. Bruce wants a fat payout, Ashley won't give it him, and for as much as this new system seems better than the old one - just like - I don't think we'll get our better players back in time. C'est la vie, a trip to Rohtherham it

The truth is, we support our side through thick and thin and get excited by every goal we score and every win we achieve. Only a thick, bitter idiot would accuse Sunderland and their fans of being small time.

I will say it again, we are boasting about winning silverware, something you lot have never done in my lifetime, we won a cup which is contested by teams at the level at which we currently play, you come on here boasting about just playing in a cup which you never won I know which one looks small time to me!

Ha, I'm f***ing terrified of horses so it's a big no to one.

On that list, guilty of 3 (I was six), 6 (a messy **** with my Sunday dinner), 7 (I wasn't always the suave sod I am now). 12 (my delivery was late), and 14.

Support your side through thick and thin? In the champo season especially there was about 20k in the stadium. 28k empty seats by far the most in the whole of the UK.

Well done for winning the lower league cup. We view it the same as you lot would look at darlo and South Shields winning at Wembley. Smaller clubs winning a lower league trophy
