Looks like there will be a 70% reduction in coverage via the ECB reporter network.

With 18 reporters reducing down to 6 to cover all 18 counties.

But it will be replaced by improved streaming of all county matches, white and red ball. These streams had more than 1 million hits during 2020 truncated season. ECB are simply transferring coverage to a more popular medium.

I’ve never understood why channel 4 (or other) haven’t picked up the championship. It’s not expensive tv, small upgrades on the stuff the counties stream, and would get decent audiences during the day.

And it builds interest
I remember in ancient times when itv used to show the Yorkshire v Lancashire championship game on an afternoon. I wonder if the FreeSports channel may have a look at this as they’ve shown all sorts of cricket on there in the last couple of years.

I guess a lot of people still don’t know about Free Sports. Channel 4/5 is way more accessible and the advertising revenue would be significant

Problem with those channels are the soaps, countdown and magazine shows. There are options though in this world and we are lucky that we will have streams and Marty commentating and reading everyone’s emails bar @chopsfc007

The biggest threat to the county championship is the attitude of the counties to it and it's structure. Personally I doubt whether it will go back to two divisions when society gets back to normal. The way it is now allows a lot more days available for one day cricket especially T20.
