If they had a better owner and were guaranteed to be in the prem it probably would be a canny option for him. Can't achieve much with Rangers outside winning a 2 team race.

He saved them and has spent a fortune. Gave them one of their own as manager. Playing PL football with large crowds (pre pandemic). Cup quarter Finals and beating some big teams. Smashed their transfer record. They are lucky to have him being a run of the mill regional club who haven't won anything for over 65 years.

That is a very generous opinion, by one of their own do you mean Bruce or Carver? It doesn't matter because both were shite decisions. He's so intent on only buying players to make a profit, which they've done reasonably well, that he's hamstrung them from being able to build.

You say Cup quarter finals like it's a major achievement, in my lifetime we have been more threatening in cup competitions than them, and we've only come close a handful of times!

Look at owners at Leicester, Wolves, Spurs for "great". At best Ashley is financially decent, but he has no interest in improving them as a club.

Forgetting the fact they hounded him out, in Bobby Robson they had one of their own, a true County Durham geordie! Managed top clubs and internationally. Did quite well for them. They built a statue of him and even use his ghost to approve new managers or transfers. All geordies sticking together.

Contrast to Bruce, again one of their own. But because he’s a shit manager with no notable previous achievements they hound him and call him names. Apparently he’s not one of them. Looks to me like you need to have achievements with other clubs a la Robson or Benitez before you can truly be one of them! 🙄

Every time I bait them I am told "all they want is a team that tries". Absolute bullshit. I have watched them recently and they have been trying very hard but unfortunately they are not very good. Very few of that team will be on anyone else's radar in the summer, aside from Wilson as it seems he can score, and Almiron and ASM as they have the legs to get them up the pitch. The rest are strong Championship players. Without those three they would be cemented in the bottom three right now, not just flirting with relegation. I just hope we get the chance to play them next season. Deny it as they may, it is the highlight of both our seasons.

I’m not expecting the new guy to throw money at club, I can see evidence of a change in philosophy with a data led approach with investment without the shambolic approach of Short. Self sufficiency is the target with the hope of promotion to Championship and hopefully then the Premier League. In the current situation with COVID most clubs are under financial pressure once we get our fans back this will change and we can realise our potential.

Imagine how we felt when it was on the Sky yellow bar that Mancini wants the gig and then a week later old cabbage head rocks up!!

So anyway Geordie managers that are good are acceptable and geordie managers that are shit aren’t allowed. That logic is perfectly fine, you only want good managers. Just don’t fawn over robson for being a geordie if your not gonna do it for others.
