The bottom line is this has nothing really to do with investment into the City, this is purely relating to Newcastle United as a football club. You are perfectly happy to give the moral high ground that you do not support the Saudi regime in anyway, shape or form, anywhere in the world or within the UK, but if the Saudis decided to pump money into your club and team it can be brushed under the carpet and accepted. You have brought 'investment into the city' into it, to try and deflect and make it out that this would be improving the lives of many across the North East.

You would have been better off just saying you either :-

a) don't want them to buy the club
b) not really bothered about the morals and ethics of it because they would be improving your football club

If you are going to take the moral high ground, What would your answer be if the Saudis came in and said it was purely a footballing decision with all financial decisions, only going towards the football club (thus not directly improving the city or economy), would you have the same view point?

I haven't taken the moral high ground, that's what you and your cronies are trying to do. I have, explicitly, stated that it's hypocritical of me to accept any investment those owners may have given while condemning their actions elsewhere. That's not taking the moral high ground.

What is also hypocritical is that you seem to suggest that Newcastle fans are alone in this regard.

The bottom line is that Newcastle fans want shot of Ashley, when the Saudis looked legit people got carried away with dreams of Europe. Did some embarrass themselves? 100%. Is that unique to Newcastle fans? No it is not. Oh, an addition to this bottom line, some football fans are so unbelievably entrenched in their petty rivalries that they can't have an honest conversation with their rivals about... well, pretty much anything.

The problem with this place is that I have to caveat everything for fear of someone picking on something small and expanding it.

I don't think SD/Wonga are in the same ball park as targetting a food warehouse in the Yemen with a smart bomb. But we were talking about negative coverage. NUFC don't get tarnished by association with SD or Wonga much at all, so even if we did get taken over by the Saudis we wouldn't get the amount of negative coverage as you seem to expect.

You have taken the moral high ground, You have stated that you aren't supportive of the Saudis in anyway, shape or form and used the wording that "you would be supportive of 'a' takeover had it gone through", knowing fine well the 'a takeover' was the Saudis, nobody else has been involved.

You have tried to look clever but made yourself look like a berk in the process.

I'm honestly at a loss for words. There's 2 or 3 of you, who cannot seem to grasp a really, really, basic idea. Supporting NUFC with Saudi owners is not the same as supporting the Saudi regime. Being pleased with investment into the city and club is not the same as being pleased with human rights violations in Yemen.

Jesus christ, you cannot, cannot be grown men and still be this incapable of simple reasoning.

Oh good. A decent thread on the management style of Steve Bruce has been merged with the abomination of the NUFC thread, because he is their current manager.

I wish the mods would stop doing this, there was some good discussion in there, some of which about his time with us, but now it is in this thread of multiple arguments and discussions running side by side.

How to kill off good discussion for no particular reason. Well done.

Trying to educate mince mate.

They get all moralistic with Ashley, minimum wage and protesting at the Durham Miners Gala etc etc but then it would have been alright to be owned by a regime that chucks people off buildings for being a gay or chops people up alive.

They truly are as a collective bunch thick as a castle wall.
