Bruce like many other managers has little or no success. Always happy spending whilst achieving very little of long term value .Always ready with a book of excuses to cover his own failures. Thanks to friends in the media he’s had a good career.

it's all going tits up there just at a critical time in their relegation battle.....

just imagine how they will be if we are in the same league next season, AND we beat them!

Absolutely terrible manager. Ive said it for years and was gutted when he came here as i knew what would happen. Those using the injuries in mitigation for the mags poor form should remember the amount of injuries hes had here. Its been a feature of his managerial career in fact. Anyone else would look at their methods. If Parkinson is a dinosaur, this fella, who by his own admission, "isnt that into tactics", is a trilobite in comparison. He'll get another job though soon enough, on the merry-go-round, and blame everyone but himself for his short comings. Would really not be surprised if he tries to set the narrative as, "they never accepted me because i managed Sunderland".

Looked to me that it was Shelvey's fault more than anyone for taking a quick free kick before Ritchie was able to pass on the message. And the keeper for not saving it.

Brucey wouldn't criticise either of those two though...

The bloke IS a coward. It’s absolutely right that he never takes responsibility, he shows terrible leadership by constantly making excuses and throwing people under the bus.

I just hope this most recent incident doesn’t cost him his job, as that may lead to them replacing him with someone more competent and they end up avoiding relegation.
He’s allegedly a liar too. The stuff he said about needing a police escort home whilst at Sunderland? What was that about? He got proper stick here once after that infamous Wigan home game. In essence he got away with murder after dismantling a decent looking squad and replacing them with sub standard mediocrity (presumably under instruction from the clueless Ellis Short) and failing to build on a good opportunity to progress.

He’s always the victim, a big fat bumbling mass of constant excuses. I often wonder what professional athletes think when they see his obese figure in front of them spouting his words if, erm, footballing wisdom. He has no excuse surrounded by fitness experts, dieticians and decent facilities to work out.

He’s just another icon of mediocrity who keeps going around on the ridiculous managerial merry go round and making millions by being inept most of the time. I wish him a long stay at N*******e, however.

Seems Matt Richie has joined the ever expanding list of players and supporters who can’t stand Teflon Steve. Won’t be long before there’s a host of ex players and media buddies coming out in defence of him.

That article is dreadful to be fair. It just sounds like a mag journalist who has spat his dummy out and trying to stir things up hoping that it'll get Bruce sacked. Perhaps something did happen between him and Ritchie but it won't have been as dramatic as described.

Terrible journalist from an awful newspaper.

I think you're talking bollocks. 99.9% of your fanbase still want them. I think yourself included.
99.9% of our fanbase wants shot of Ashley and given the Saudis are the only ones to get to the O&D test, they're the only show in town.

If the Reubens stumped up the cash to buy us out 99.9% of our fanbase would want them too. Newcastle fans aren't married to the Saudi takeover, they're just desparate to see the back of Ashley.
The hard facts are; a cruciate injury at that age is almost a certain career ender.

Even a seasoned pro will find they are not quite as fast or able to turn the same way as before.

I worked with a guy who'd just broken into the first 11 at Everton when he did his cruciate.

The club paid his wages and medical costs but they knew it was over for him and sure enough he was released at the end of his contract.

It's hard, but at 18 that is a career ending injury.
Don't doubt you for a second, but more could be done to provide a better shot in life for a kid who's convinced his talent will grant him a football career.

"Coward" is a strange choice of insult. Wonder if there is something deeper there.

From reading the story, i would think it's likely he said coward because Bruce wouldn't come out and talk to him, sent Steve Agnew to come and get him.

My other thought for why he said coward would be that it's because he's always blaming the players, the press, the fans, injuries..never his fault.
A few games in a row now he's publicly blamed players. A good manager would defend his players in public and still dig them out in private.

Honestly, I think you overstate the interest from the Saudis. As I said earlier in this thread, the only party showing any enthusiasm and expectation was Amanda Staveley.

I think she wanted to own you, and she had talked the Reubens and PiF into putting up some money to achieve that. PiF saw it as an investment/publicity opportunity, the Reubens saw opportunity as well.

But the main noise came from Staveley again.

If the Saudis wanted to buy Newcastle I am sure they would have found a way. But they just didn't want it that much when things got tricky
They weren't desperate to own us, if they were they would have sorted out the piracy issue and arranged the corporate structure in a way that would sail through the test.

They did want us enough to get to the O&D test though, which is significant interest.

Met him a few times , nice bloke to be honest.
Maybe in the fleeting moment you had with him. Many would say differently, perhaps?
The ultimate victim where nothing is ever his fault.

Next time you meet him, ask him if allegations that after the 1-5 defeat to Newcastle, whether he spent the night drinking in The Diamond in Ponteland with Shearer, Harper etc or went home early as he was so disappointed as he told the media.

100%. Shit players big money contracts. Mind you the muppets running us renewed a lot of them for narrowly avoiding relegation. Everywhere he goes he has huge injury lists. He paints it as bad luck in the media, but no manager can be that unlucky at every club he goes to. When he was here he used to rush players back.
^this. I spoke to the SAFC physio he sacked - Sacking reason seemingly that Bruce wanted to play players before they were ready to return and did not like it pointed out that this would lead to further time on sidelines..
