Honestly, I think you overstate the interest from the Saudis. As I said earlier in this thread, the only party showing any enthusiasm and expectation was Amanda Staveley.

I think she wanted to own you, and she had talked the Reubens and PiF into putting up some money to achieve that. PiF saw it as an investment/publicity opportunity, the Reubens saw opportunity as well.

But the main noise came from Staveley again.

If the Saudis wanted to buy Newcastle I am sure they would have found a way. But they just didn't want it that much when things got tricky

Ashley would still invest heavily (after sales) to get them back up, they would also retain a few players, some of whom are on the fringes and are probably excellent Championship players.

No level of realistic investment would close the gap that much, we'd still be way off as its not even as if we've got a young team that's going to improve.

And when it goes tits up they backtrack using whataboutery, claiming it has nothing to do with the club or fans. I believe this was set up by Ashley & Staveley to make them money and give the Saudis a planned target to Sportswash. There is no better target than those imbeciles.
