Looking at investing in a decent BBQ - so much choice and not sure where to start, what’s shite and what’s not.

Leaning towards gas as it’s easier to light and clean but don’t know what I should be spending and how to make sure I don’t fuck it if I leave it outside or if it needs to live in a shed.

Any tips much appreciated!

Anything steel will rust outside - so in the winter it will need to live in a shed ideally.
At the end of the day, here in the North East, we won't be barbecuing every night, let alone every weekend -so don't go overboard. Get what your household would use on an ordinary sitting.

A good quality coal bbq is better than a gas one, however, gas is more convenient. If you go down the coals route, don’t skimp on the coals themselves. Get the fire burning hot and keep the lid closed as often as possible to retain heat.

Stainless would be ideal. But a tad expensive.

I like the Weber kettle ones. Also buy a chimney to get you started And a cover. Tried gas, and may as well cook in the kitchen.

Have a Kamado Joe which is tremendous and has the benefit of being a smoker as well as a conventional BBQ.

But, if I’m just doing a few burgers and sausages or a bit chicken, then the Weber Kettle comes out...can’t beat them.

100%

Superduplex would be the job
Failing that buy a disposable for the amount of times you will use it
I was on the B.P. Miller back in the mid to late 90's.
And we made a rack for one of the lads to put his gas bottles on on his diving boat.
They were made out of half inch sch40 super dupex which were for a big job on the AGI project onboard.

How did you get it back to the beach on the chopper

aye that was my thought too - just the novelty of doing it outside even though we hardly have an Aussie climate here. It’s more the convenience of just lighting it up on the off chance the weather is decent as no point in planning on a barbie here.

With a chimney you are good to go pretty quick. Prior to the kettle i had loads of flimsy Homebase / b and a bbq’s and wish I had got the Weber kettle sooner.

I know a guy who could sell you some of that gas and gas accessories.

Taste the meat, not the heat

The kamado ones are meant to the bollocks. Out of my price range but they are meant to be top of the range.
