Clean forgot the mags won that prestigious TEXACO CUP in 1974. In the Final 19,288 crammed in to St James’ Park. Yes 19,288 compared to the 86,000 for our Micky mouse final. Their’s must of been before their famous waiting lists started.

See what I mean - impressive research there.
They had an attendance of 7,134 at a Division Two game v Wrexham in 1979. They've always been MASSIVE mate
...and more..... :D

The cup in 69 that UEFA don’t regard as a major trophy, next.
Intertoto certificate, next.

Imagine giving it the biggin still after winning fuck all

Knew the Bear would pop up with his ignorance. Them 6 points lost going to fuel his hatred for rest of lifetime.

UEFA do recognise the Intertoto as a major trophy. However the format it presented.

NUFC have won a major competition under UEFA regards in other words.

 no, and no. Without bothering to bring in the status of these competitions, neither were entered by winning anything, so the point stands. Getting in to something without winning a trophy, which you then win (regardless of teams not bothering to turn up) and have an entry into something else is not getting into Europe by winning a trophy. If that upsets you then let's just say you are the only NE club to represent England in Europe without winning an English trophy.

The 1969/70 Fairs Cup entry was through winning the 1968/69 tournament. However entry to 1968/69 tournament was achieved is a moot point. But be assured that entry of 1969/70 was by winning a trophy.

Be assured you are wrong, "Entry" to Europe was not gained by winning a tournament, you were at that point already there, and were defending it with automatic entry. But whatever keeps you happy. Anyway, no one was talking about invitational tournaments. Your Inter-Toto "The other finalist wasn't interested" Trophy has more standing than the "Whose had a Trade Fair" Kickabout.

Look we won the IOM Invitational Trophy back in the 80s but we don’t drone on and on about it. You won an invitational tournament back in the 60s. Fair play, well done. Pat yourselves on the back round your own doors eh?
We’ve both got bigger problems to solve than the validity of second class tournaments.

You have agreed with me on two most salient points. Automatic entry means winning a trophy. And you recognise Intertoto has a valid EUFA recognition as major tournament. Always the bind Sunderland fans find themselves when saying we have a European qualification without winning a trophy. And saying we havent won a recognised EUFA competition. Fact is we have done both.
UEFA don’t recognise the fairs cup.

Bye bye Benji, don’t cry, you’ll find your real dad one day.

They recognise the Intertoto though

Barcelona Valencia & Arsenal class Fairs Cup as trophies. Who has won IOM invitional? Not even sure Sunderland have. And Fairs Cup wasnt invitional by 1968. It was based on a qualification that was just as easy for Sunderland as Newcastle. Had they finished 10th in 1968. Rather than 15th.

Misquoting doesn't make it true no matter how much you want it too. Of course UEFA recognises the Inter-Toto, it is it's own competition, but you think that puts it on par with the Europa or Champions League as a major trophy   that's Gold. So the FA recognises the EFL Trophy so if we won it that's like winning the PL or the FA Cup in your eyes - you must be shitting yourself that we win it!

Who said it wasn't a trophy? Of course it's a trophy. It's not a major competitive trophy though, no matter how much you want it to be.

Of course they recognise it mastermind it was their competition, doesn’t mean you should brag about a certificate.
