They are professional quizzers who spend their time learning and reading up. While the contestants are earning their money at work.
The contestants have to buzz in which eats up time, the chasers don't. The advantage the contestants have with the head start of up to four places is very quickly eaten up by the chaser. As for the harder questions it wouldn't surprise me if they were hand picked by the show producers depending on how good the player is. Having said that it's still the best quiz on TV.

That's my problem though, I have a very low TV attention span. If I don't take an instant like to something I don't usually carry on watching. I didn't like the chase at first but the wife always had it on and so I watched it and got to like it.

Off tangent a bit , but that programme where three of the chasers are travelling round the country is very poor and worse for them shows them up for the oddballs they are.
