Rafa - Steven Gerrard and Robbie Keane

Some absolute whoppers on here.

Clearly he isn't the best manager in the world anymore. And anybody saying he is one of the best is wrong. But he's won a champions league, two spanish leagues and the world club cup. That makes me rate a manager.

He's miles ahead of someone like Pochettino and Bielsa, both of whom have won nowt

Just seen two interviews with Steven and Robbie - I think it’s fair to say they are not fans of his.

There are managers who are brilliant at people management - as far as these two players are concerned he may be good tactically but his man management skills are lacking.

Oh and Robbie says he learnt so much from our big man - Niall Quinn.

I won 7 quid at the dogs when Quinny gave me a tip!

Pretty much what Craig Bellamy says in his autobiography. Rafa could talk football but struggled with people.

All managers have a shelf life, mourinho now looks like yesterday’s man tactically but has still won trophies in recent memory with United and could still win 3 cups this season,! Both he and pep haven’t won a champions league in 10 years,

All he has left on his CV is a relegation. You can’t be telling me a manager who has only achieved a relegation when you look beyond trophies actually good?

  Why would you look past his list of achievements but keep his failure, this is one of the strangest things I have read on here....

It's like completely removing the league titles or FA Cups that Sunderland have won and looking at the clubs whole history on a draw against Gillingham....

The thing that strikes me about Benitez is if you look past those trophies, he hasn’t actually won anything of note and hasn’t been a successful manager at all.

VERY overrated for me
Winning la liga and the UEFA cup twice isn’t winning nothing of note ffs

If you look past all his trophies and victories what has he got left

with you on this. clearly more of a cup manager but that valencia team was class, and his liverpool team were always knocking on the door. by the time he got to newcastle he was looking for something to reignite his career but i personally am happy he did leave. if he was backed properly there's a good chance he could have won a cup with them.

put a black and white tie on any manager of the world and we will somehow move goalposts to make him shite

Fine, take away his failure as well and his record is very average. He''s pretty much Sam Allardyce or Sean Dyche when you put it like that

And look at how the mags treated Sam.

For all the banter he gets on here he obviously is/was a good manager. I read an article from Gerrard years ago when he just regarded him as aloof as in he didn't want to socialise with the players over than above being their manager. Who cares if he got results on the pitch. I just think that his career has regressed over time.

I don't give a monkey's chuff about Rafa, I've said on here before his football was shite, but your argument and reasoning borders on rediculous....

While the mag love in was/is beyond pathetic, there is no denying its not a bad managerial record over the course of his career.

Granted its a while ago when he reached his peak, but when he looks like back he will rightly be proud of what he achieved in football. Including that lovely relegation.

Rafa pre 2010 was very good. Since the he’s been very average but a lot of the trophies he has won have been super cups or cup won on the back of the achievements of the previous manager.
Could say the same about the Valencia team hector cuper built that battered quite a few teams with mendieta, bajara, ayala, canizares etc.
😂😂😂 I can’t believe I’m reading this, if you look past Guardiola’s, Mourinho’s or Real Madrid’s list of trophies won, then they’ve won nothing of note....
What did the Romans do for us moment, I had a chuckle myself when I read it, apart from all of these trophies what has he actually won?

True, I would say his achievements of 2 titles at valencia and liverpool champions league are really the only really impressive trophies in that lot and its 20 & 15 years since then.

Yeah the FA Cup, UEFA Cup, Europa League. Alongside the Lincolnshire Cup in prestige. Sunderlands FAC win against Leeds not 'really impressive' either I take it? Strange thread this. I'm no Benitez fan but some of this stuff is like Ingsoc double-think rewriting of history.
