Well buttler is coming back for the ipl....think id rather he played this series over the ipl
I’m not sure, we’ve got cover in his position and playing IPL will get hopefully get him right for the T20 World Cup. I’m really looking forward to seeing Foakes in India.

Hi Mate who are you to judge me about my knowledge and understanding of test cricket?
Just that in my opinion God bless him Dom Sibley by comparison looking back makes players of the ilk of Ken Barrington and David Steele look like masters of superb cricketing stroke play and both of those players are far better openers than Dom Sibley will ever be.
In my opinion of course
I agree he was successful today but he easily could have been out more than once early in his innings
It is true to say that different folk prefer different players irrespective of their qualities or not and I will hold my hand up and say I don’t fancy him long term as an England player
History may prove me wrong

in fairness with your cricket knowledge you should know that David Steele never once opened the batting for England and was always in the middle order. You could be right about Sibley he has had a good start but he has flaws. Most people who come into test cricket have them and its those that work at them that succeed. He's good at doing that but I agree it could go either way with him.

Foakes has more than deserved his chance, we're just a stronger team with buttler in as a batting option in asia.
Id love both bairstow and buttler to request not being rested whilst the series result is live

Agree we’re a stronger side with them in it but it gives others opportunities. I’m presuming Bairstow and Buttler are ok with it and as tough a decision as it is, I personally am ok with it too.

I’d love to see them there, particularly Bairstow and I hope he makes it back for Tests 3 & 4.

But equally, I’m excited to see what Foakes can do and really hope he performs.

That would give us even more strength in depth in that position which would be great, especially when the Aussies are a bit under pressure there. Be great going there next winter having 3 keepers better than the Australian captain!

Sibley had three good lbw appeals against him. Chuffed for the lad, I'm a proponent of his general approach (we've lacked a proper defensive opener for too long) but still worried about his ability against spin.

Good result that, but SL need to be asking questions about what happened in that second innings.

I just hope nothing suspicious comes to light in the future in regards to that and the first innings of first Test.

Root’s captaincy still got areas to improve but as Nasser just said the importance of his batting outweighs how good he is tactically.
So important he’s in good form, he gets big runs and we could have a very good year.
I think I’m the only one who doesn’t have a problem with Buttler and Bairstow missing parts of the India tour.
For me it’s really important Foakes gets a chance now and I’d much prefer the other two got a rest and weren’t burnt out by all the cricket this year. T20 WC, IPL, India home & away and now NZ, lots of cricket to be played and for me most important thing is they’re ready and firing for the Ashes.
Not sure who’s playing what but I’d have given them two Tests each in India.

listen there needs to be a conversation on workload

but Buttler has just done a full IPL in October and then will do a full IPL in March

you can’t justify that for me. He should miss some of the IPL

if he wants more time then miss the NZ at home series

he should play at least the first 2 or 3 tests, you can’t miss a marquee series for the IPL man

this is important

Buttler has improved so much and looks a top keeper batsman to me. You’ll be defined by your marquee series

it’s a real shame we aren’t giving ourselves the best chance
True i've heard a lot on here about his absolute brilliance and how he should have been in for years. I hope he doesn't disappoint.

foakes will do Ok I’ve no doubt

but Buttler has looked an absolute class act and it’s a big blow he isn’t here
Really really enjoyed that series like

dunno if it was because of lockdown more but as posters said earlier this is a very likeable side

just love Root, withStokes n Buttler supporting him in leadership group, possibly with YJB next.

I like at the squad and we do have some talent but there’s just a tad too much inexperience in the batting still

If there wasn’t a World Cup coming up I’d agree but there is and the IPL is obviously good prep for that, and that’s without taking into account the financial argument. Archer & Stokes will play both & there wasn’t an outcry about them missing this tour. I think it’s justified taking everything into account and with what’s coming up.
Look Buttler is an absolute class act, we both said it last year when he was taking a load of abuse and it’s a shame he won’t play the full series, but he’s only missing 3 games and we’ve got able replacements for who it’s a good opportunity to show what they can do. All good for me.

the t20 word complicates for it sure but still the IPL is long, he doesn’t need to play of all of it

especially when there’s 2 in 6 months

I think he will regret this personally in the future

thing about the other 2, Stokes father had just died sadly, so he needed a break, and I wouldn’t have picked Archer in the XI either

I just think there are other times we could have rested players

even for the 2nd test we are without Buttler, Wood, Bairstow, all who are in my XI

hard to justify that, just think it’s a shame as without first choice XI I think we have half a chance

I’m faith in Foakes actually like I just think Buttler step up!

If the rails come off later in the India series I suspect fans won’t be happy

I dont know if its been mentioned on here, but when I was watching I said to our lass that the ball that got Root out in his first innings bounced off the stump mic onto the stumps. It got a mention on TMS today , was at sodding work so couldnt watch it today

I think you right mate and as much as I love Buttler as he is my favourite cricketer and think he is a class act and beginning to answer his red ball critics.

I can’t defend not putting country first, your country should always come first and such a shame that when he is clearly in great form and clearly a good player of spin that he is only playing one test

The only thing I'd say is I reckon they've decided these things together, Root, Morgan, the player, Smith etc. They will say they are doing this to try and win the World Cup this year, and if they do, will say I told you so. I dont quite agree with them like.

T20 really is a momentum game like, being in form on the IPL months earlier or whatever has no relevance to performing in the tournament IMO, these lads are superstars already. I think its a mistake for sure

The big point for me, is 2 IPLs in 6 months, thats just too far.

People are getting carried away mind. Bar root out batting was hideous

Well Buttler played really well for starters

Lawrence played well first test

Bairstow contributed at tricky times in all 4 innings, didnt quite kick on

won 5 tests away from home in a row

lighten up mate, if you cant enjoy that then whats the point?
