He's done brilliantly considering how little cricket he has had in the past year.

Just needs backing now, Bess did well in SA, and probs deserved ago in the summer after that, and he is a better batter too. But the reality is Leach is a better spinner. If Mo Ali is past it, just got to give him a run.

Really think spinners is such a unique role, they need to have faith from captain, difficult to bowl if you think you are on edge.

Could definitely make the arguement that Bess plays at home/less spin friendly conditions and Leach on more spin friendly tracks....
Personally id just pick Leach over Bess but think England are trying to mold bess similar to what Australia did with Lyon

Decent points but when Woakes comes back in the team it strengthens the tail, which hopefully enhances Leach’s case.

As things stand I wouldn't select Bess before Leach unless perhaps the opposition was full of left handers. He just isn't as good, has too many release balls and his batting isn't superior to the extent that it makes up the difference. His figures definitely flattered him in this game, he has lots of improvement to do.

They like his charachter and seem to think he doesnt get down if he goes for runs, and has the attitude for Australia, what the journos thinl anyway

Leach is better bowler, and is a tough charachter too. Can see why they stuck with Bess after SA, where he bowled well, but Leach deserved a go in the summer.

Leach will get a run now and needs to show why he is number 1

Bess still got more wickets this game, despite the merits of each one etc

Leach just knows his game better, bowled more overs than Bess, and thats what spinners need.

Just on a side note, Lyon has been awful this series against India.

Good points but to me he looks like exactly the type of bowler that would get singled out by the Aussies and thrashed to all parts. They did that with Moeen and Swann (accepting their battig isn't as strong these days). I'm not writing him off though he still really young for an offie but he just goes through spell where he bowls to short, too often.

Aye I dont disagree, wasn't my opnion, just what I'd read for their logic

I think Leach would struggle there too mind, even though I am a fan.

He's never realy been backed like, he is the best we have in we accept that Mo is done.

I agree. Its hard for spinners over there. Better bowlers than Bess and Leach have had a caning.

Had noticed but likely to have 1 more innings to win the series, India have played him very well so far too.

Impressed with ashwin and jadeja this series with bat and ball
Cant see how anyone outside of Root will be able to keel ashwin and jadeja at bay in India (stokes having to deal with the rough and ashwin, buttler batting after keeping in the heat for so long)
If Engoand do win this game, really think it would be worth Virdi getting a go next test, even as a 3 man spin attack
