New Music Releases Thread

It looks like we've got a shite couple of months coming up. Which albums are we looking forward to to help get us through it? Shame and Mogwai have albums out in January, so there's a start.

viagra bits then ciao your hands say yeah but that’s not until Feb. Not really a lot happening for me unfortunately
Yeah Sleaford Mods, I knew there was someone I'd forgot. Hopefully The Cure will finally release their long anticipated new album next year too.

A Cure record and a tour to go with it would cheer me up no end.

Ben Kweller’s first album in almost 9 years is out tomorrow.

I’m also looking forward to Steve Earle’s album of JTE covers, there should be a new Sarah Shook album, Foo Fighters (although they aren’t that popular on here), The Hold Steady.

still got a couple of hours before 2021, late to the party, but just scanning through what i've listened to the most this year my top five albums on plays (music ive gone back to the most) were:

EoB - Earth
Doves - The Universal Want
Nadine Shah - Kitchen Sink
Working Men's Club - Working Men's Club
Late Night Final

Best of the rest have been in no particular order...

Leon Bridges & Khruangbin - Texas Sun
Craig Armstrong - Dirt Music
Elephant Stone - Hollow
Tame Impala - The Slow Rush
Max Richter - Voices
Sault - Untitled (Black Is)
Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher
Fontaines D.C. - A Hero's Death
Olafur Arnalds - some kind of peace

A few I’ve enjoyed recently

Taylor Swift Evermore
I can’t see split this with Folklore, another fantastic album and definitely would have made it into my top 10 for the year.

Tomberlin
enjoyed the debut album from 2018, At weddings... their new EP released in October, Projections, is superb. Low key acoustic goodness.

Widowspeak
their latest, Plum, released in August, i somehow missed. this is full of catchy indie tunes, really good album.

I suppose I should a mini-Thursday update. The Dirty Nil release their album tomorrow and Steve Earle's JTE covers album follows on Monday.
Ben Kweller tomorrow too.

I enjoyed Evermore but didn’t think it was a patch on Folklore - felt like they’d written a couple of new tracks then tagged on all the songs that weren’t good enough for Folklore.

Fair enough marra. I know a few have said similar on the thread.

I think it sounds different enough to Folklore, to stand on its own merits.

Both outstanding albums.

My records of the year below, in no particular order. God knows what any of their records were called, but whatever they released this year!

Quite a non experimental year for me, lost a lot of passion for it with working from home all year and having no live music. Here's to a better 2021 on that front.

I've had a rough punt at explaining what genre they are if anyone wants to dip in to any of them...

Happyness - slacker guitar pop, if you like Sparklehorse, Real Estate, things of that nature you'll enjoy
The Cool Greenhouse - an English Ought? I'm quite excited to see this lot play live
Kiwi Jr - straight up guitar pop, short tunes, all of which are great
Pet Shimmers - shimmery, glitchy, psychedelic pop. There's 7 or 8 of them and it's funny to watch them cram onto a small stage
Bad History Month - post punk, when it is good, it's very good
Choir Boy - shameless 80s synth pop, quite gothy but done very well
Porridge Radio - post punk-ish, been done to death on here, can't quite believe this wax 2020, what a long year
Romare - house music, signed to Ninja Tune, really great
The Cribs - needs no explanation really, it's a Cribs record and it's full of hooks
Adrianne Lenker - solo record from Big Thief, lovely record
Kevin Morby - it's Morby, it's really good as usual. If you like Bright Eyes then try it
Matt Berninger - solo effort from the National lead singer, it's pretty much exactly what you would expect from him, great songwriting
Roisin Murphy - disco house fusion, it's brilliant and worthy of the hype
Phoebe Bridgers - needs no explanation! Magic
Crack Cloud - my AOTY, outstanding, uplifting art punk (??)
Bdrmm - dreampop band from Hull, very similar to Horsebeach who are also great
TOPS - just straight up synth pop bangers.
Waxahatchee - another I can't believe came out this year. Her best record yet. Alternative rock with a folk influence I guess
HMLTD - long awaited debut. Bounces between genres throughout, I guess its something like experimental glam rock pop? They're electric live and you should make a point of seeing them when you get a chance.
Grimes - art pop, I think it's the best thing she's done yet, certainly the most complete. Don't let the Musk link put you off!
Lanterns on the Lake - their best record yet and one of the AOTY, stunning work. You'd probably call it indie rock I guess
Glass Animals - annoyingly catchy pop. You'll either love it or hate it. I was sick of it within a week but damn I enjoyed those first few spins!
Bruce Springsteen - his best in a long while

snap! before 2020, i'd have thought working from home meant you'd have more ability to enjoy music compared to the office... it appears commuting and blocking out the office hum seem such a bigger motivation for me to listen to music... same to a certain degree with podcasts too.

Good list sir

I haven’t been able to go back to Happyness as one of the tracks had a really annoying beeping in it

Just listened to this. Nothing groundbreaking but there's some canny tunes there. You can't go too far wrong with a bit of funky disco house like.
I've really enjoyed it. Had enough hooks to it that kept me coming back.

Milk Float. :) To be honest I think it's the weakest of their three records, but as a little fanboy I still enjoy it.

Great list mate. Romare was indeed great, listening again now
