Its part and parcel of local cricket plus some of the older umpires wouldn't survive without a cup of tea and a slice of cake

They can bring their own still!

Quick straw poll of the team I played for preferred no teas and a packed lunch, esp in smaller clubs where you sometimes have to organise the tea yourselves. Then turn up at other clubs who make the most basic of efforts.

Just do what we used to do at the darts up the club. Phone a chippy up and get them to deliver a load of sausages and chips and hoy a couple of loaves of bread on the table anarl.

Such a shame, it’s one of the traditions that stands cricket apart from other sports.

Absolutely
Problem over recent years is getting someone to do them.
Many clubs have had to resort to out-sourcing it therefore make very little money.
The last club I was involved with were charged £90 and league rules were set that visiting teams across the league paid a flat £45.
The Tea had to be a good standard as well. Any complaints meant a couple of committee members would visit the club and do an inspection

It was miles better this year just bringing your own IMO
Medomsle CC as far back as the early 80's in their NEDL days had a policy of bringing tea for two.Informing players what to bring such as pies, cakes, sandwiches etc.Worked well as no outlay other than milk and teabags and no pressure to find helpers or tea ladies

I played the final season for Sunderland Hospitals in the NEDL and they did the same - worked pretty well to be fair.

Worked fine this year bringing a packed lunch. Happy for it to continue

That said, our sunday 3s have done the teas themselves for a few years now and it works great. Im unsure if our model would work with either the Academy side or in a first team setting

I think it worked great this year bringing your own tea. Fully appreciate the old tradition but the costs have spiralled and we genuinely see local kids not wanting to play as they either don't want to, or can't afford to shell out the fiver it tends to cost these days to play on a weekend. If they can bring their own thats one less thing that could potentially drive them away from the game.

Also saves a load of hassle finding volunteers to do them.

I see the NEPL are now seeing whether or not players want to make bringing your own lunch the norm. I suspect that more will vote for than against, the traditionalist in me thinks it’ll be a real shame, guess we have to move with the times though and recognise that people are more time pressed these days. My main gripe about last season was not being able to get a cuppa, I’d hope provision is made for this if BYOT is made permanent.

That practice got outlawed in the South Yorks League 20 years ago.
The Gents who took over running it raised standards no end.
Committee members would turn up at grounds various on matchdays randomly to inspect facilities and the standard of Teas.
Wo betide any slackers in those departments.
These days most clubs make fuck all out of providing the food.
Most can't get anybody to do them, so it's contacted out.
At Oakes we would take £90 in and pay £90 out.
Visiting clubs all pay the same £45 straight charge every game- league rule.

Would think that facility will be a given mate.
