Takeover News/Rumours

No, but I wouldn't expect anything else before completion anyway.
Let’s see. Something does not ring true. What is the structure of the deal, purchase price etc? To understand that would reveal a lot more about the financial state of the club which cannot be good.

Why would people who could pay for the club with pocket change not purchase outright?

Where does the takeover stand? Been very busy with work this last few weeks but as far as I could see there was an article in the Guardian and not much else? Some 22 year old kid is the golden ticket? Something seems a little off with this.

It’s a bit like tomorrow .... it’s always a day/fortnight/month away ....

Let me take you back to the beginning of this latest rumour ...

I understand Sunderland AFC owner Stewart Donald has entered a period of exclusivity with a prospective buyer - I believe it's not Mark Campbell or William Storey- with a view to selling before the season starts. Sale could be much sooner #safc

The above tweet sent by Nick Barnes is dated 25/07/2020.

The season started in early September - the sale hadn’t been completed.

We were then told by the end of the month.
September , October and now November have nearly all come and gone and still ..,, no sale/takeover

We’re now being told maybe by December 10th ...and the wait goes on and on and on ...

Right, thanks. So I had not missed anything.

I would think if it was a done deal both parties would be happy to make a comment on the record but perhaps not.

I think that in the year 2020 it is sad that football clubs are nothing more than either a rich mans play toy or a financial asset to be exploited. The club risks selling its soul but perhaps that happened once Bob Murray took the silver shilling.

Careful mind healthy scepticism is frowned upon. Why would anyone trust Donald or Methven to get a single thing right, they're running of things has been catastrophically bad. Even a single word from Sartori "yes" we are hopeful of a deal but there's not even that to hang onto. A few stories in the media possibly spun out by Methven is all there is.

Because the current owners don't want to sell outright?

I do not believe that. Surely they want to get the hell out of Dodge after this chastening experience. Moreover, they cannot get close to a price that recuperates their losses.

If so they will want to structure a deal that gives them the option of some future dividends but stems their ongoing losses. Not many buyers are daft enough to transact under those parameters.

Maybe a 22 year old with a trust fund is?

Maybe I'm lacking business sense but if I could own, say, 76% of something that could make me a lot of money if I do it right then I wouldn't necessarily dismiss it out of hand because someone else would make a bit on the back of any success because they hold the remaining 24%.

The current owners best chance of getting close to 'a price that recuperates their losses' is to do just that and piggy back on future success. And, at least in Donald's case they will be getting the hell out as they'll have no executive role to play.

Agreed. From what he says on comms he’s got a better understanding of what needs to happen to get this team going than Parky does. After garbage like last night I’d swap him in as caretaker in a heartbeat.

he regularly has the same gripes we do. Lack of young players, poor subs used too late, Wyke.

Not at all, you’re business sense seems sensible. My point is that most normal purchasers of an asset would not want to take on the risks and rewards of ownership to make a success of it and give 24% of any gains away.

It has gone a bit “entertainment” these days but if you watch the Dragon’s Den, on TV, the buyers hold the balance of power and always get the best of the deal.

Maybe Donald has found a gullible chancer. Maybe as I read today that Arcadia are about to go bust that this is the equivalent of Philip Green’s BHS sale?

It still doesn't need a modern-day Arnold Weinstock or John Harvey-Jones.
I see ,I dont think charlie could run a a condom kiosk in a brothel successfully! He has had a lot of advantages and family support in life and I doubt his peer group would view him as a success. For a bloke who works in PR he has demonstrated no acumen for that role whatsoever. His schooling ,network of friends and family contacts have got him where he is today and i doubt he has any idea what a complete and utter failure he has been at safc. If he is at safc next year other than teaboys second assistant i will not renew my season ticket! Its a sad sad day for safc when that complete waste of zygote has anything to do with our club.

Really need this take over done ASAP. If January comes and goes with Parky still in charge and no fresh blood in the squad, its a finishing spot well outside even the play offs.

Can't believe we're having to peddle another f***ing manager....we must be looked at as one of the biggest jokes in football!
