A long thread on this now really, but I was interested in the fact he said he doesn't have the capabilities to be Sporting Director, but didn't rule out CEO on the same grounds, when its patently true in that case as well.

That’s perfectly true in a specifically corporate and income sense but senior roles at football clubs are different because they operate within the public eye almost on a daily basis unlike the majority of SME’s . It’s a huge institution relative to its community standing

His expertise...if you can call it that...is in sales and marketing,as GOM is pointing out....that's a hell of a long way from CEO.

It speaks volumes about his abilities that someone with his privilege (Eton / Oxford) has been such a failure, relative to his peers, in his career. Failed journalist. Set up a magazine that went bust. Tried to buy a stake in Oxford United but failed. Set up a two bit PR consultancy which has been downsizing. Spends about a year here working, fails, walks out because he can't hack it (while retaining his stake). Writes lots of letters on behalf of football clubs, trying to exploit his connections, making demands to the Government, which are predictably ignored.

At the age of 43, I don't think there is any evidence he has ever succeeded at anything he has ever turned his hand to.

Must be a real disappointment to his parents, who no doubt were expecting him to be a Cabinet Minister or something.

He should have taken up politics. He has all the required attributes.

If the Sporting Director is going to be running the show with a "CEO" reporting, that really reduces the CEO role to a senior administrator. I've known companies like that where the CEO isn't even a director. And the number of stakeholders doesn't add much in the way of complexity of the role, other than an awareness of the likely response to any business decisions made.

The family history is military. Their disappointment will be that he didn't go to Sandhurst and become a general.

I suppose I mean different stakeholders . Media, Fanbase and Sponsor . And being responsible for a “product “ that is analysed by tens of thousands on a daily basis

This is the bit that finance people don't ever seem to get. They can quote chapter and verse on the facts of the numbers and if it "qualifies as an SME" without understanding the bigger picture, community value and emotional investment people have in something.

This isn’t a normal 23 year old from Plainsy!! He has the perfect business support structure behind him, has an educational background in football business management - and yes I know he didn’t complete the degree but not sure that will hamper his career prospect.
