Can someone clarify are they staying shut?

I didn’t hear it mentioned explicitly but all the sky ticker says is gyms, shops and hairdressers.

Has it been confirmed they are staying closed and for how long?

Hmmm. Interesting to see how that works out.
It's like that for Scotland. Some pubs have stayed shut because they don't really have a proper food menu and some are just open part time probably to save cost not being open during normally quiet times.

Wet pubs are in for a very tough 3/4 months

I guess it was on the cards when Sunak pushed furlough out to end of March

on balance I think I would prefer pubs/restaurants being open abit more than allowing 10% of fans back into stadiums

Always think the wording "substantial meal" sounds canny vague mind, unless it's clarified somewhere else. Can imagine places doing micro chips and a tin of microwave ravioli or something so they can stay open

It is - @bahtat posted a link in another thread.

The key point is that the meal has to be the primary object with the alcohol being secondary, so like a bowl of chips wouldn’t really fit the bill. There is a fair bit of interpretation, though.

Yep. Most places could put 5 or 6 microwave meals or a bowl of chips on a menu if they were that determined to game the rules

We've already had this debate haven't we? You can serve a pasty and a side salad but not just a pasty by itself. It was the case in certain parts of the country before this nationwide lockdown.

Pubs aren't gunna give a shit about anything other than a token gesture imo. A bit of food for the table then pints all night. They're completely on their arse as it is.

You can only have a drink if you have a meal - once the meal's finished, no more drink?

Can't see many going to a pub on that basis.

Can't see many pubs wanting to open on that basis.

Drink-only pubs and clubs will be lucky to survive this - I suspect a hell of a lot of them will just call it a day.

We might get through this with our health intact but, by god, it's going to be a dull old life when we do.

Dunno, I never normally come on this bit of the forum. Just seems very easy to get around. If I was a wet pub I'd just start selling salad and microwabe pasties for next to nowt (assuming it's more profitable for them to open than it is to stay shut)

I think you might be surprised how long a bowl of chips takes to demolish 😊seriously though how the hell has it come to this.
