Financial penalties plus transfer embargo.
Oh well, maybe not then 😄 Does it still. Apply if we broke it then got promoted? I remember when QPR broke FFP (or whatever it was called then) to get up to the Premier league but any penalties would only apply once they were relegated. I assume that was because its two seperate governing bodies.

The only way I see around the cap is to offer very very high bonuses for promotion. Give 18 months contracts with a whacking promotion bonus and make it worth people’s while to come.

Iirc bonuses over and above the salary cap can be paid for cup games, just pay whatever massive amounts are needed for appearing in the pizza cup. There will be all kinds of ways around it, no doubt the guys from France, Switzerland, Monaco and Russia etc will be able to outwit the efl.

I'd think they still apply, because we'd still be in the EFL structure. QPR got away with it because the PL is a separate organisation to the EFL.

Is the wage limit to squad members only, surely we can drop some from the squad officially to make room? Even if we still pay them. eg. McGeady

That applies for this season only. Everyone's wages, apart from under-21s will count in future season, whether they're in the squad or not. Do what you suggest and fail to go up, and it's a massive problem next year.

Getting a decent manager, which won’t count toward the wage cap, would go a long long way to addressing the immediate goal of getting out of this league.

This group of players, over the past couple of seasons, have shown they can play football and score goals. It’s the idiotic negative tactics which are holding us back.

None of the strikers have proved they can score goals in the last couple of seasons.
