Simply awful news. He made three of the best hundreds I've seen from a Durbam player.

Apart from his century against Lancashire in our first gane as a first class county, he hit two 100s against a full-strenth Pakistan at Ropery Lane. Pakistan were on a for a massive sponsors bonus if they won a certain amount of games so Waqar, Wasim etc were steaming in and the finally beat us after tea on the final day. Deano was absolutely brilliant though.

RIP Deano. Thanks for the memories.

Yeah, that was the first time I'd heard Zinidabad Pakistan! Can also remember sprinting on to the ground after the last wicket fell. A different time.

Another memory is that there were some sponsors walking around dishing out cigarettes, if you gave them an empty packet.

I have never smoked but a mate I was with did, he was raking around all over the place for discarded empty fag packets

Was it Rothmans? I'm sure I can remember Rothmans Girls handing out cigarettes. I think cigs were also dished out at B&H cup games.

RIP Dean Jones. Very sad news.

And as for that Durham v Pakistan game I was sat next to some very boisterous Pakistan fans from Newcastle that day which I wont forget in a hurry. They were a good laugh TBF.

Dreadful news.

It was a joy and privilege to watch him in that first Sunday league game at the Racecourse in 1992 when he scored 114 against Lancs and such was the huge impact that he made on the club both on and off the field that it's often easy to forget he was here for only three memorable months.

A true Durham legend. RIP.

I was there that day. Fantastic innings by Jones, remember him as an attacking batsman and fast between the wickets and in the field.

Sad news

Gutted.

He was always active and engaging on twitter. Loved the game and wanted to give back by nurturing young players and doing the circuit around to promote new cricket playing countries.

Hell of a player in his day too. Clean hitter, quick off the pads. Had a swagger too.
