Interesting. Even if wrong with no regard to facts. Before Ashley rocked up in 2007 we had gone 15 years in Premier with numerous top 6 finishes, Champions League games, and cup finals. Why would be a shit championship team given it was only on his watch we ended up in championship?

To be fair, Shearer did it in a 42 game season, in a team that finished in the top 2. He never got anywhere near 30 in any season at Newcastle. I accept he was a consistently prolific striker though.

Phillips came to it rather late in the PL, but to score 30 goals in 36 games for a 7th placed team, is a remarkable achievement.

Not convinced that spending 20m on Callum Wilson is a clever idea though. He's 29 in a few months, couldn't buy a goal last season and his confidence looks shot to bits. 7 goals in his last 39 in the PL - on paper that looks abysmal. Maybe there is still a good player in there though.

Be a decent signing, Wilson. I like him. I wouldn’t burden him though with the pressure of wearing that shirt until he’s settled in. Soon as he’s hit double figures he should be awarded it imo.

Never said otherwise. Point was he did it regularly without winning Golden Boot. Phillips did it once and won it. Its a fine achievement and a lot of great players have been awarded it. As have a lot of players who had a season well above their career level.

The championship bit was more a little dig than any statement of fact. The rest absolutely is true. Without Ashley newcastle would've be run into the ground, it's on his back you've managed to stay in the prem for so long. Just wait for the day he eventually gets sick of the fans and their persistent whinging and sells on to someone with less money and business sense. The little bubble on the tyne will burst.
