Not sure why Barnes is getting all the stick, imo he's heard something from someone he's either trusted or in a position whereby what he's being told will be legitimate and decided to pass it on in good faith knowing it would please the majority of fans. The fact it hasn't happened yet or he could have been had isn't really a reason to ridicule the bloke, I don't think he would have mentioned it if he thought it wasn't true or genuine information. He could have kept it to himself, which he probably will in future if a similar situation occurs, and that benefits no-one.

Given a snippet and then did nothing to verify it or find out more...shit journalist if he is one

So how do you think he should have verified it? In theory, no one outside the Madrox shareholders and the unidentified buyers should know about it if NDA's are working. Some things are simply not capable of independent verification. His only choices were to say what he did or say nothing.
 
Never mind this takeover - in the entire history of the SMB have we ever passed 1000 pages on a thread? If it happens I expect it to resemble crossing the streams in ghostbusters

So now you're expecting a radio commentator to morph into an investigative journalist. Is he supposed to bug BCH or something? There are about three investigative sports reporters in the whole of the UK, and most of them work for the Guardian. Maybe you should try to get David Conn on the case.
