Following another dreadful television performance, Time is running out now for Durham to pick up a win in any format of the bastardised season of 2020.

The worst side we've had since 1996 IMO. Plenty has been out of our control with the ECB shafting us, but the recruitment has been by and large, very poor, and we are in danger of becoming a team of mediocre Kolpaks.

Lees has been a good signing, as has Eckersley but with the exception of Rushworth, it's a rank average squad and we are in danger of losing our identity.

Yes but at least in 1996 we had a team of mainly young local lads so we were prepared to be patient and hoped this would improve. It's the complete lack of direction and planning at present that irks me, particularly in T20. To be fair most of the signings have been decent apart from Dickson. Let's hope Bancroft returns, he clearly was the guiding influence last season.

Agreed. In 1996 we had emerging talent such as Harmison and Collingwood coming through, along with Betts, Daley, Brown and Roseberry forming a local core to the team. Now we seem to be littered with journeymen and never will be's.

We don’t really look like winning any game
Apart from Lees and some flashes from Bedingham we look an un organised team and even the ground fielding and tactics have been bang average

I cant see them winning a game - lets face it look at some of the games we threw away in last season's competition when we had a genuine world class player in the side in the shape of Short.

Most of us had a go at Lewis (myself included) but are Franklin & co doing a better job? and the sobering sight of our best bowler umpiring in local cricket while we get beaten at a canter by Leics simply beggars belief.

So plenty of games

Are you going to give us the benefit of your opinion? Or continue sniping?

If the season continues to be a disaster I can see the club and Franklin parting ways - which I think would be a bad thing, I’ve been saying it for weeks now but as bad as it’s been and may get, you have to draw a line under it and reserve judgement until next season.

The fielding yesterday was at best Village cricket. Dropped catches, poor ground fielding and a missed stumping. We seem to be following the Sunderland recruitment model of getting rid of players deemed not good enough and replacing them with players that are no better

You said yes or no to reply yes it didn't need a massive answer

The thread title is a simple yes or no question, you’ve not given your answer.

You'd think surely they'll win at some point. T20 is much more of a coin flip than longer formats.

I'm instinctively skeptical of someone like Franklin, because as a player he had bucketloads of talent but seemed to go backwards from the early to mid 20s. Surely you'd want someone who had less talent but used their brain and work ethic to make the most out of themselves?

While we can point to selection decisions .... is the main problem local talent? That at present it's not coming through or it's there but not matured sufficiently?

No. Honestly don’t see anything other than cannon fodder.

how much do you think these players are earning? Would be interested

Given the random nature of T20, yes. Plus the other Saffer has arrived.

Raine and Coughlin are both local lads, with Lees, Eckersley, Carse, Rushy it's a decent core. If Beddingham and Bancroft come back next year, plus the other Saffer, it's got the shape of a good side. Something's wrong there at the minute mind, it doesn't look like any of the lads tried this season are going to make it and I cannot understand why they haven't given Trev a run.
