Bumped into him on Newbiggen beach a good few years ago. I think he said he was up to visit his mother. Happy to talk as we walked along him me and me Dad.

R.I.P. Jack.
I met him back in the early 80's up at an engineering place in Consett. His son Peter was working there.
Jack and the company owner, a bloke by the name of Mac Murray, went on a walkabout on the shop floor.
Jack was chatting to all the lads, and he was great crack.

Sad news. I knew he'd been in poor health in recent years but very sad to hear

Loved the story Quinny told about him in his book....

walked into the reception of the hotel and Jack was holding court with a few journalists. As I came close to the group, Jack turned to his assistant Maurice Setters and said, 'Bloody hell, Maurice. We haven't picked that lanky buggah . . . have we?'

'Think we had to,' said Maurice.

And there it was. Elated to deflated in one nanosecond. You could see the journalists all thinking . . . 'Christ . . . now Quinn doesn't even know he's been picked.'

I met him few times.Years ago, he used to (just) get into The Braes Hotel in Consett on a Sunday morning. He was so tall that he didn't fit in under the bar. I also met him in hospitality at Sid James at a derby match where we beat the skunks 2-1 (as usual). Lovely big fella. RIP
