I know I've allude to this before but I can't find any stats on it - does anyone know if the number of deaths now being reported in the community is still greater or less than this time in previous years?

If it is in the same ballpark are we not now simply reporting 'normal' figures for this time of year and their continuing impact is due to the fact that we are historically not used to seeing them reported on a daily basis?

Sorry if I've got the wrong end of the stick but this suggests excess deaths are now back to normal:

Yes but what difference does it make.
My point is if there were 100 deaths in the community this time last year and the same number again this year, surely we are back to 'normal' as regards the number of deaths for this time of year.

If that is the case, why is it 'awful' this year when it wasn't seen as awful then - the only difference is that the information wasn't being highlighted as it is now.

Can someone tell me what deaths in the community actually means please? Is it just care homes?

126 deaths today. previously 176, 154, 184, 245, 359 in previous wednesday data

locally county durham saw 1 new case and sunderland saw 0 new cases. newcastle, hartlepool, stockton also 0, with boro 2.

for perspective leicester reported another 72 new cases.

will post death toll data later for the region.

stay safe folks

It’s pointless trying to make that very valid and correct point to Phil as he simply won’t accept it and then starts arguing and making stuff up to try and prove his incorrect view as fact
There were less excess deaths last week than the 5 year average. Or am I wrong

Fantastic news. COVID-19 is now saving lives as there’s less people on the roads, at work, drink driving etc.

1 north east death which was in county durham and darlington nhs. this makes it the 3rd registered death in the north east nhs this month
4 new cases in the region. 2 of those were in middlesbrough.

@MackemX
More stats from my pal in USA , is he accurate ?
"So we’d all agree that in one form or another nearly all countries in Europe have their acts together re Covid the last month or so. Yet here are daily averages. Most recent last. 19k 19k 18k 18k 16k 17k 17k 19k 20k 19k 18k 17k 18k 19k 19k 18k 17k 16k 18k 18k 18k 19k 19k 17k 16k 18k 19k 19k 16k 16k 18k 17k.
Point is. This thing is a bear. That never really goes away
That is all of Europe. Hardly any improvement. Just a tad"

If those daily stats are for the whole of Europe that has a population of 750 million people that’s not bad at all.

17k is 0.000226666666667 of 750m
