Black Lives Matter

Would you have flown it? It was always going to lead to trouble, especially right now.

Honestly, I have no idea. It's a difficult time but I'm firmly against people living their lives in fear of social media backlash. If I would shy away from it would depend on circumstances I imagine.

Assuming the chap had nothing to do with the creation or idea, I think it's wrong for him to be persecuted for doing his job or running his business.

And, as per, the first personal insult comes from 'the left'.

It's disgusting. Have you actually heard them laughing as he dies on the ground? And after? Well the only good thing to come out of this 'MURDER' was the world-changing riots after it happened (Sarc)...

They only see what they want to see mate.

And boom the business is finished (someone picked me up on suggesting this earlier):

""Following an emergency review this morning, Blackpool Airport will suspend all banner towing operations at the airport with immediate effect and we would suggest that other airports should also consider this approach in light of what has happened at Blackpool.""

Its like going to a funeral service and standing at the altar with a placard that says 'Other deaths matter' Nobody would disagree with you, but it's obvious you chose that exact time to cause offence and hurt. People will wonder why you decided to do it...perhaps you believe that the deceased doesn't matter and only 'other deaths matter'. Probably because you're a racist.

The BLM movement is creating a bigger divide in my opinion. Not the point of it, just the way they’re going about it.

The London protests were a big slap in the face to those who had respected the Covid lockdown for weeks for the good of the general population. Also to go after the police when theres nowhere near the problems like the US have here doesn‘t seem right either. Now the far right groups are hitting back, and it seems like this could get really messy.

It's refreshing to see folk who don't normally post on these sort of subjects seeing through the nonsense with critical thinking & not virtue signalling tittle tattle.

Also does this kneeling at the football have an end date?

Agreed. BLM does not need to educate me as heart and soul counts. However, I really do worry that being aggressive will result in conflict, and we don't need that.

Not really though, is it?

The RFU are talking about dissuading the fans from doing it. I've never really understood why an old plantation spiritual was sung anyway, other than it was frequently sung in bars long after matches with what rugby players consider "appropriate" charade type movements, including a wanking motion for the word "coming". That seems as good a reason as any for dropping it in the first place. If I remember rightly, it first started being sung when Martin Offiah was at his peak. That's pretty questionable really.
It was sang in honour to Martin Offiah because his nick name was chariots due to his speed (chariots of fire)
I don't see why that's questionable, Martin as a black player didn't take offence i don't see why anyone else should.
I very much doubt anyone or very few singing it would know it was written by a plantation slave (I didn't) and even knowing that I still don't see a problem. I think it's a bit of stretch to imply someone singing that song is in some way racist or supporting slavery.
This kind of thing divides not unites in my opinion.

I think some people would say that singing that song divides because of its history

You might think it unites because you agree with it

Lunchtime news:

'Now, have confirmed they are investigating the incident to assess whether any criminal offences have been made.

Chief Supt Russ Procter said: “We are making enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and we will then be in a position to make an assessment as to whether any criminal offences have taken place.

“We recognise that this banner will have caused offence to many people in Lancashire and beyond and we continue to liaise closely with our partners at both the club and in the local authority.” '

We have BLM everywhere we look at the moment, people kneeling, protests in the cities, statues going over etc but the police 'recognise that this (WLM) banner will have caused offence to many people' and are assessing if a criminal offence has taken place. Criminal offence?

I could save them the time.....investigate some robberies instead. Ffs is common sense dead and buried?

Cal 'The Fucker' Richards quotation comes to mind. "This used to be a green and pleasant land.....now it's the fackin' colour of anemic dog shit".

Does institutional racism have an end date?

Too many times people have been told that things will change, it’s very understandable people have had enough and want to live in equal society now.

Trayvon martin was killed by an hispanic...
... because he was black.

He was walking through a gated community visiting his dad’s fiancée and was shot because Zimmerman (whose father was half German and half white American btw) thought he was a “threat”. Why was he a threat? Because a black teenager in a hoodie shouldn’t be in a gated community.

I didn't pick you up on it because I thought you were incorrect. I was just saying it was a depressing thought. And it is now a depressing fact.

This. My hope and expectation was that when my generation toddle off this mortal coil, my daughter's generation and those following would have next to no reference with regards to racial difference. Education is the only way we can move forward.
The thing I find sad about is that she has now mentioned differences and that "white people have been bullying black people for ever" (her Mother's work, that).
If you had said the words properly I would have agreed. what you need to look at is how our teachers and tutors are making our children left wing that if you don't have an opinion that suits them then you are a racist, you can't stand to be proud to be British you can't sing along to the national anthem yet a full Wembley for an England game all sing along to it including black people now they are wanting rugby fans to stop singing sweet low sweet chariot at England games where many black people attending. these left wing people are a danger to our society and youth of today and it was sad to see them hijack the BLM demonstration because it wasn't black people you saw damaging monuments statues and the cenotaph it was white people the same people who demonstrate at the Brexit marches and will most probably have something planned for January 1st when we break free the same people who turn up at the G 20 summits and cause mayhem these people are scum and a danger to the future of our children and grandchildren

I didn't say the song unites, I don't think it does anything, it neither divides or unites, it's a song and I don't see any racial aspect to it. They would have sang this song had Martin Offiah been white, and had his nickname of been the flash they would have been singing the Flash Gordon theme. To me it's just trying to create and issue where there is none.

care to explain how singing a song by a plantation slave divides?
Surely that would only be the case if its was being done derogatory.
