How can it not be linked to the buy out of Newcastle?
The Saudi government have refused the PL access to its legal system to challenge BeOutQ.
The Saudi investment fund, which exists to generate money for the Saudi Government now wants to buy a club, which will get cash from the exact people it has allowed broadcasts to be stolen from.
Can you not see how a big investor like a TV company might seek compensation if thats allowed to happen? Or at very least how it would devalue the product when it comes to negotiating a TV deal?
The exclusivity of TV contracts is why the command such a high price. Its why Sky and the PL went in so heavy when all the foreign boxes were drifting about.
It makes a mockery of the exclusivity if they let the PiF buy Newcastle.
My suspicion is this.
The PL will approve the deal if the Saudis allow BeOutQ to be prosecuted by BeIn. But they wont, because BeIn are a Qatari company and they will want compensation from a Saudi company, which they would likely get.
Alternatively they might offer the Saudis a TV package, but then they would have to pay compensation to BeIn. The PL wont spend its own money paying them off, just so the Saudis can have a new toy. It also damages future negotiations as it calls into question how exclusive PL TV deals are.
The UK Government is putting pressure on the PL to accept the takeover. Technically I think the PL would normally approve the takeover, based on the Fit and Proper persons test, but it wont damage its relationships with its broadcasters. So theyre between a rock and a hard place.
I think both the PL and the Saudis are probably wishing this never happened. Is there a certain time before these things expire? If so, I think everyone is waiting for that to pass so they can blame each other and move on.
Winning half a dozen games to win a cup is ok, most clubs have achieved this. The ultimate criteria of a big club is being better than everyone else and being crowned champions of your country. We’ve managed to do this on six occasions, come back when you better this achievement and your posts may carry a bit of clout. We've won more domestic trophies than Sunderland and Boro combined.
Like I say, I’m absolutely no authority on any of that and I can only go off what I’ve read ( and that’s by people who probably aren’t authorities also )
That’s a very good balanced post and informative. Cheers.
It really must be a nightmare for those involved.
if you're counting the fairs cup we might as well include the sportsnight 5 a side trophy around 1981/82. It was about the same significanceThree.
He's only on here to fuckin wind people up. Shame certain people can't see it. Same as 99%of the germ carrying twats. The board WAS the best, shame these wankers are being allowed free reign .High and mightyDid I say I wouldn't want them? Why are you on here constantly seemingly looking for validation from Sunderland fans? Go on Toon chat or whatever it's called and talk about it there, it's pathetic man.
