The format changed.
In 2001 we lost a final to Troyes when it was played in July/August.
Iirc there would be 6 or 8 finals, and teams enter at what would be the quarters or semi finals. Effectively preliminary qualifying rounds.
By the time we won the 06/07 one we won it by getting the furthest out of all the teams that entered via intertoto. Played a couple of qualifying games iirc then entered the uefa cup. Wasn't a "final" like there'd been in the late 90s and early 00s.
Our first game was a week after the world cup final against Lillestrom.
