Almiron   lucky Bruce and hasnt St Max had a few injuries? Face it man Rafa wasnt as great as you think

I work with some lads who slated his football
How great do I think Benitez is like? You seem to know my thinking pretty well.

Benitez' football isn't for everyone, I totally get that. I've mates who hated watching us set up against the big boys with little interest in attacking, up until the final whistle and we trot off with a point or 3. It's pragmatic, predicated on denying the opposition possession in key areas and only really being expansive for brief periods. We only really started being more of an attacking force after Almiron joined. He might not have scored or provided a direct assist, but we were much more of a threat.

First of all 'Bruce having Saint Maximin' Rafa wouldn't have touched him with a bargepole focusing on what he doesn't do rather than what he does. Bruce figured in a team without Rondon, Perez and no real replacemement he would need a player that can get something out of nothing and used him very well. So perhapd Bruce had more of a plan than just relying on Dubravka? He got more out of Almiron as well.

'Bruce signed off Joelinton' that like reading the Chronicle wit you making an argument the Bruce had something to do with the signing. He didn't he was given him. At the end of the day he had a worse side and comfortably kept them up.
Hang on, either Bruce signs off on players or he doesn't. You can't credit him with ASM, but absolve him of responsibility for Joelinton.

No, Benitez probably wouldn't have signed ASM. His unpredictability can be a huge benefit on occasion, or it can cause problems. Benitez likely would have kept Rondon and tried to keep Perez.

We're way more reliant on Dubravka this season than we were last time around. He's made more saves than the majority of 'keepers in the league. I've shown we're worse defensively, worse in attack too. Bruce looks like he's kept us up and that's better than I expected, but objectively we're playing worse this season.

Surely in the history of football, there hasn’t been two sets of fans utterly infatuated with a previous manager, especially a manager who produced so little.

I'm not crediting him with signing ASM i'm crediting him with making the most out of talented but unpredictable players that he was given such as ASM and Almiron. You are more reliant of Dubravka this season because your team is worse and Rafa is undoubtedly a good organiser.

WTF has that got to do with our current position?

Th obsession with Rafa on here is f***ing mental.

Its a realistic comparison with how Bruce has done this season with weaker players than Rafa did last year with better ones ;)

With Rafa on here its just the sheer astonishment that someone who took you down, got you promoted and kept you up for a couple of years buy playing dull, functional football is treat like some sort of demi god. Its beyond parody. As I say when t comes to obsession you lot have a cheek.

Agree with you until you mention Almiron. He's not very good at all

I heard on the grapevine that Joelinton was a moment of Mike Ashley coming completely out of character. A willy-waving contest. He and Rafa had never seen eye-to-eye. Rafa wouldn’t sign a new contract. He was having digs at fatty every other day in the press.

Ashley’s recruitment team earmarked JL as a top player. Hoffenheim wanted £30m. Rafa said he’s not even worth £20m. It had become personal between the two of them. In an act of spite he told Rafa that he was signing him anyway, not for 20m but 40m and he’d still make a profit. Just because he could. It’s the only occasion at NUFC where he let his heart overrule his business head.

The defenders aren't worse. they haven't changed. The only parts of the team that've changed are the attacking midfield and striker positions. So why are we so piss poor defensively? Well, because Bruce isn't a very good manager.

Who was in goal last season like?

Hes only been manager for 29 games. They are joint 10th in the goals conceded in the premier league. He has 6 points more than Rafa at the same stage as last season conceding less goals
