There is no disputing that it is more tantalising for an armchair fan to watch a Newcastle team with Mbappe, Bale....who else has been mention Haaland (though in reality it will be a team of African mercenaries and South American nobodies milking the teet of Newcastle), than a dull, say Norwich, team on a rainy Monday night.

But you have to think about financial risk (impact on brand value) which is more often than not asymmetric in nature. The upside, of a more exciting provincial team is negligible in comparison to the downside risk that another incident shines the media spotlight on Saudi. If I am a brand I want positive reflection not negative reflection. This is not anti-Newcastle, this is business reality.
I would disagree.
i don't think the negative aspect of Saudi ownership impacts sales.
I think the amount of people who would choose not to subscribe to the premier league because of the Saudi ownership is so small it won't be factor in marketing strategy.
I'm sure there will be plenty of people hoping the other side stuff us because they don't like the Saudi ownership but do you really see people cancelling sky sports over it.

Do some research on where EPL money comes from before embarrassing yourself.

He is a strange one, he lives on here. I can't decide if he is on a mission to just gently try and piss people off or whether he is just a bit of a loner and needs the company. I have mag mates who can't understand it.
I've spoken to a few of my mag mates who have season tickets for SJP about some of their fans who are on here constantly and even they think that they are sad bastards

It was, nothing controversial or delusional in there at all. I suspect the only reason it's being laughed at is because it's written by a Newcastle fan, either that or the readers a little dim.

All it says in essence is it's easier for a TV company to market a game between two good teams than it is to market one between a good one and a shit one.
Obviously Newcastle will get some Saudi fans and if you sign some well-known / highly sponsored players then marketing interest in the league will uptick.

why don't you explain how you feel it makes a difference to anything I have said.

I don't understand what you lads find controversial about a statement that says two good teams playing each other are more marketable than a good and a bad team.
would you rather watch a Ferrari race a Porsche or a Ferrari race a Fiesta.
Would you rather watch two champion boxers locking horns or a world champion versus a nobody.

Not saying Newcastle are going to be a Ferrari or champions before you wet your nickers, it's just an analogy.

I think if it doesn’t go through which looks more likely each day that passes it will still rumble on for a while. I would assume there would be a legal challenge from the Saudis and maybe even from Mike Ashley who must know this is his golden ticket to sell or probably never get this high a price again.
Well the Saudi's would actually have to think twice about whether they would want to take this to court in GB. Do they really want accusations of piracy (never mind anything else) out in a British court for the whole world to see? It may not be a clear cut choice for them. The courts are unlikely to sympathize with a despicable dictatorship and while the govt gets along with SA, the courts have already shown they don't give a shite what the govt thinks (think prorogation). As for Big Mike there are rumours he actually has an investor (Henry Mauriss) who is willing to meet his £350m asking price. This delay doesn't mean it's not going to go through, but it is making Big Mike rethink his options...

I agree which is pretty much what i said all be it a couple of sentences longer.
I have no idea what in that sparked all the comments about it being laughable and delusional.

Interesting to see Kevin Phillips backing the takeover today. Accusing people who don’t want it to go through of jealousy. Wonder if there’s something in it for him other than column inches ?

Suppose it depends on the level of proof that is held on these piracy links. I’m not even sure how that would impact on the fit and proper persons test? It’s clearly a complex case as it’s taking time but I guess we have to factor in the current situation as well.

Either way I just wish it would be decided either way and we can all get on with supporting a team that wins fuck all!

There lies the problem. They don't think like the rest of us. They're animals and barbarians in all honesty

The problem with corresponding with you, is you only read what you want, and take what fits your agenda. Put yourself at the head of marketing of an EPL supporting brand and think of the reputational risk and the impact it could have on the value of your stock if there is a "Saudi incident".

The courts are neither sympathetic or unsympathetic, each case is tried on it's individual merits, on the evidence and it is irrelevant if the people are despicable or admirable.
