This has been the biggest non-Corona sports story in the country for the past month. There may have been some scrutiny, but I do not remember the level of media pressure pre-takeover when it was Man City. I barely remember it even being a story. I think we played them the day before they were taken over, and no-one was talking about it then. This is on a different level. Everything they do will be scrutinised to a ridiculous level. I struggle to see what the Saudis are going to gain from it from a positive publicity point of view.
Maybe that was that it more or less happened out of the blue, this one has turned into a circus due to the fact that the takeover was deliberately leaked imo. You can’t have it both ways

Obviously the CH details started it off but some of the detail leaked has been damaging for the takeover to be fair. Staveley can’t help herself.

The mags on here are trying to tell us they are the victims now. They can't understand how anyone cares about dismenbering journalists while they just want to buy Haaland in peace. They even get racist suggesting it's an arab thing, all arabs are the same and other clubs have them.
Truly pathetic! They've sold their soul to the devil and they are proud of it.

The UAE who own city, Qatar who own PSJ along with many of the Middle Eastern countries have a legal system in which Sharia law trumps civil law. They all have the stoning laws, same women's rights issues, the same persecution of gays.
They all take down dissidents on trumped up charges, use torture executions etc.
Granted only the Saudi's had Jamal khashoggi murdered but all those other countries have engaged in state sponsored murder and lets face it when it comes to state sponsored murder it's not like the west have clean hands either.

If you want to criticise the Saudi's then fine, do so and more power to you but you need to be equally vocal against all the other countries in the middles east that operate under the same ethos when it's put to you.
If you are going to say it's ok for the UAE to buy City and Qatar to buy PSJ but the Saudi's buying NUFC should not be allowed it shows your issue is being anti NUFC not pro human rights.
You’re correct in stating human rights issues are a global problem. The Middle Eastern countries that have been involved in mistreatment of people, murder of people and genocide need to have an example made that the west doesn’t condone these atrocities. Breaking down Sharia law is where the fight lies.
With all that said, MCFC and PSG had an opportunity to take a stand and didn’t for the simple fact that someone was going to end up rich and it may as well be them. Seeing that these two clubs missed an opportunity to make a very loud and visible human rights stand doesn’t make it ok for NUFC to do the same. NUFC have an opportunity to be loved and respected by millions for taking people’s well being over money and potential success.
We all know that NUFC supporters will turn a blind eye just as the rest of the footballing world would likely do. If you’re in a position to make a statement and don’t then don’t criticize SAFC supporters for calling you out on your compliance.

I agree with that totally. It's why I do wonder about that initial leak. Whoever did it pretty much ruined whatever PR strategy the Saudis had in place.

My query on this is firstly why should it only fall to fans of MCFC, PSG or NUFC ? They / we have very little sway if buyer wants to buy and seller wants to sell. Also, as like you say somebody is going to get Rich so the fans are happy to be that person. The vast majority of any fan of any club would welcome that. Man City / PSG fans don’t give a chuff when their winning leagues so expecting them to challenge ownership is futile.

Secondly, like you say again, this is a global issue so surely it’s better that any highlighting of these issues comes from people with genuine sway. Politicians would be the obvious example.

Thirdly. This is obviously something that concerns you so may I ask genuinely what you plan to do to amplify and get your point heard ? Are you speaking to politicians, human rights groups, the press etc ? Perhaps looking to gather support from other clubs fans reps could also prove useful maybe. With a global issue you have every right in speaking out on this. Using a football message board is a good place to start but let’s be honest it’s not going to gather the support you need .

You’re dusting it off and handing it off to the next person to handle. Change starts small. Your club have an opportunity that no other club at the moment has. The ship sailed on the other two mentioned clubs and it’s not hard to see that money talks in their respective cases.
Im not calling you out personally but asking you to take a look in the mirror as a club and honestly answer the question “Do we build our club on the souls of the mistreated and murdered? Do we say no?”
Stop with the whataboutery and talk to yourself and don’t concern yourself with what’s going on around you at the moment concerning other complicit clubs. There’s an opportunity to make a statement here on behalf of civil society. Will your club make one?
As far as myself I’m 65 and will still stick my nose in if I see someone being mistreated. I also know that I may come out on the wrong end but I won’t stand quietly. As you can see, I’m sticking my nose in here.

I was planning on stopping replying to these as its the same thing going round in circles but as you have presented a reasonable view in a reasonable manner i will.
I don't disagree with anything you say here.
I was never saying it wasn't wrong for them so it isn't wrong for us.
I was saying you can't say it's good for them and bad for us, well you can but its disingenuous.

If your position is Man City and PSG fans missed the opportunity to be outspoken against their takeover on human rights issues, and if Newcastle fans don't take the opportunity then they are equally bad, then this is a perfectly valid argument.

The only thing I would differ on is I think it's fine to call Sunderland fans out if I believe their issue is not that the Saudi's are buying a football club but because that club is NUFC.

Just to clarify my position to you in case there is confusion, I will not be speaking out against the take over.
I do want the take over to happen because I think it will be a game changer for my club.
I have always been very critical verbally of middle eastern culture when asked my opinion and I will continue to be critical when asked, the take over does not influence my opinion.
I have never actually protested against the middle east in the past and I won't in the future regardless of a take over or not. The reason for this is fairly blunt and simple and that is I simply don't care enough about what goes on over there.
You could show me a news article tomorrow that said "Saudi Arabia execute 100 political dissidents" if you ask me what I think I will say it is horrific and condemn them and it will be genuine. That said I will feel no pain or grief and will not be inspired to join a protest against it because I don't care enough.

You're talking BS. One thing is to read things about a middle eastern tyrant and a whole different thing to have that tyrant owning your club and enjoy games with them in the stands as brothers in arms.

Thing is though I have absolutely no say in what NUFC do, I am not an amployee or have any say. I have as much say as you do. You’re asking me will the club make a statement ? You know as much as me truth be told. I presume they won’t though, why would the owner speak out when he clearly wants to do business with them ?

I get your unhappy, I really do mate but poking your nose in as you put it on here or to me really is pointless in terms of taking action, We’re just a couple of Blokes waffling on a football message board.
