I'd imagine in years to come if a similar scenario occurred (not saying it will) that you will find a similar theme. It would be exactly the same if the tables were turned too.

Even 15 years ago when you were being relegated on record low points total (at the time) I cared very little. For the rivalry to truly thrive both teams need to be able to give it a real go.

You’ve realistically only challenged for the title twice, post war. This why the general consensus amongst football that Newcastle has the most deluded fans in the land, big club based on fan base yes top club based on the field no chance, made progress in the 90’s through major investment, that could have been any team in the top two tiers, look at what Blackburn did.

Read my post carefully. I didn't say we were always challenging for the title or always in Europe, what I did say however , was when we were not a single thought or fuck was given about you. Probably because you were utterly dire at the time. When things were more of an even keel the rivalry got exciting (even when we were losing, regularly). It added relevance and worth. Competition drives derbies. Nobody in Manchester gave a shit when City were in Div 2. The rivalry was worthless.

For your sake, and the sake of the Derby I genuinely do hope you get back up and competitive again. It's not an insult, atleast it wasn't meant to be. I'd expect the same if the tables were turned.

On more than one occasion people have said things like 'dont care about them getting taken over, need to concentrate on us and the league' - even your own fans are devaluing it. It will only get even less significant as time passes.

When I was younger we challenged for the title. That's not a lie, the bloke himself named 3 occasions that we did it. We also played in Europe and made cup finals. These are facts I don't even understand why they are being questioned 😂 as my previous post stated, I never once claimed we were doing it all the time.
