I grew up in Gateshead (felling) always called myself a geordie and was never called a makem until about 93/94 when he had 2 years spouting about a geordie nation. The city is f***ing tiny and most of its support come from the surrounding areas. That fucked a lot of people off. Growing up in the 80s Newcastle were a season away from doing a present day Sunderland.

I believe the ‘Newcastle’ basketball team had Sunderland in their title for 18 years before they became Newcastle Comets.
