As an impartial observer of North East Football this reveals a fundamental difference between the two clubs and supporters. Undoubtedly this fuels the impression the clubs forge on a national scale and in the media.

There is a romantic notion with Newcastle that captivates people. Difficult to pinpoint it but we see it in the mythical number 9 shirt, the associations with transcend figures such as Keegan and Robson.

The “atmosphere”, which has been largely absent over the last 10 years but it is almost a trademark association with Newcastle that somehow and some way is still attractive to a billionaire prospective buyer.

That is what got under the skin of such a renowned super coach as Benitez and beguiles people who want to buy into it.

As north easterners we all recognise Sunderland has a the same traits and associations but it never comes to national or international prominence in the way it does at Newcastle.

it’s a peculiar phenomenon, really, that somehow has outlived a 13 year reign of asset stripping under Ashley.

Jesus christ your patter is absolutely shite. Give it a rest man.

Does Martin Samuel have any links with Ashley and his PR people (KBA?)?

Wonder if this could be Big Mike's first, indirect, response to the one sided stream of info?

Possibly, he’s had this ‘what’s £40m to a billionaire’ schtick before (well, it was £10m last time).

Well that works both ways, mate.

Could be, Staveley seemed to push the button early the last time but i think it’s as good as done, unfortunately.
Whey man, check out this absolute f***ing whopper...

Nee way I’m clicking on that heap of shite.

Knowing nods and winks iirc

First time they went down they got rid of basically all the mercenaries they'd accrued (Martins, Viduka, Owen) as a few were out of contract. He managed to hold on to the ones with spine and a bit of ability and supplemented it with loan signings and good Championship players on the cheap.

The second time, yes he had a boatload of cash to spend, but he also had a manager that got value for money on the big-ticket players. Ritchie and Gayle were the main goalscorers for around 20million. I'd reckon most owners would take the odd bad signing for a few million if you get most of your big moves right.

Whilst i totally agree with the above how is this lucky. Astute stewardship would be more accurate.
He did nothing to warrant getting it in the first place tbf.

That may be true however he has done well in my opinion.

Exactly. Good to see one of the sensible mags on here recognises it regarding Bruce. Unfortunately you'll be shouted down by the lovesick.

99. 9 of the mags couldn't give a flying fuck and we'd be the same. Football fans are only bothered about what happens on the pitch.

@fyl2u would disagree with that, as would SD
How many beheadings of children has Mohammed Bin Salman authorised? I’m genuinely curious.

How about in the last month:
  • Trying to keep his stores open by arguing they are essential services
  • Furloughing our entire non-playing staff to save money when we made a significant profit last year.

And as a last laugh he's selling you to a group of people the modern world despise, that makes him look like a saint.

The moral objections to Ashley will not be carried forward as Newcastle embraces the cash of one of the world's most heinous regimes and a raft of embarrassing Arabian costumes will ensue.
I could be wrong of course....
