I said your champions League performance was awful.

In 97 98 you lost 3 out of 6 and Dynamo Kiev and PSV finished higher. That is failure.

In 2001 you did better lost 3 of your 6 games in each group stage though I wouldn't say it was a success.

Then you couldn't even beat Partizan Belgrade in a playoff.

So 2/3 campaigns were failures. I'd say that qualifys as awful myself

Agreed on the Partizan Belgrade "campaign". But the first campaign had its highlights (beating Barcelona, obviously) given Newcastle were absolute novices in the tournament.

I think he was merely implying they were good teams which the outcomes of their domestic seasons etc proved. That's not difficult to understand. If it's the first game of the season and you beat Liverpool it's an achievement because of how well they had been doing etc and potentially how well they still will - that's not a difficult concept to grasp tbh.

Liverpool are European Champions. Barca were la Liga runners up going into that season.

My abiding memory of the Kiev away game was Beresford scoring a looping screamer for you. I think it was the Kiev away game anyhow.

Doesn't help when there is 2000 post thread all about the mags.

Its utter embarrassment and needs to be removed. That's the reason for all these new posters

Agreed but I was just saying personally I wouldn't sign up to a Mag board to do it. Maybe if I was about 14 I would. I can't speak for others.

How old are you just out of curiousity? Would you consider yourself too old for twitter? Let me assure you there is plenty of gloating and one upmanship etc on there. Even your official club account had a dig about attendances and empty seats recently. It's part and parcel of the rivalry. Those taking part are significantly older than 14 too.

Is this thread a wind up? Actually seems though we have world leaders like Trump and Boris its not so surprising people are voting for Mike to take over SAFC.

This is on twitter:

My realistic toon starting 11 20/21 season 4-2-3-1

Joint managers Steve Bruce Rafa Benitez

Oblak
Trippier koulibaly Schar Alaba
Shelvey Matuidi
Saint maximin Mertens Grealish
Haaland

Bench Ben Arfa Dummett Longstaff x2 Cristiano ronaldo (just back from injury)

Oh and Souness saying they will be top six and qualifying for the Champions League. FFS!!

 I dont care how much money they have, Haaland won't be going there.
Also, Jernjer keeping his place?

Christ these two threads were totally different that have been merged - it's a horror show to read now. Should have just deleted the infestation one.

The fact your are using a teams achievements a year later is laughable 😂

Barca were in transition. You beat them in September not long after Ronaldo left and Robson went to PSV. You don't win the league in September.

They finished bottom of the group and you hold it up as if you beat Peps Barca with Messi 😂

No I saw there team. All Ukrainian. Did Ukraine qualify for the the world cup that year?

Oh they didn't did they

I quoted Kiev’s CL semi final performance for the following year, they lost in the 1/4’s when we played them. All the rest were in the same season we played them as was the same for Barcelona. Some transition, going from not winning La Liga under SBR to immediately doing the domestic double and winning The Super Cup under Van Gaal.

Are you saying that Kiev couldn’t have been that good because their national team finished 2 points behind Germany in WC qualifying?

Will they need to gain a big following overseas? Man City haven’t.

Manchester City have a major marketing problems in Asia and beyond. Here, in the UK, the loving media has referred to them as 'United' for at least 3 decades (much to the chagrin of Sheffield and Newcastle, etc). Overseas, most simply see them as Manchester and are now a little confused by a second big-hitting club from that city.

No I'm saying they aren't very good because they failed to qualify in the group as best runner up. Then being beaten in the playoffs.

Plus Barca signed Rivaldo and Sonny Anderson that summer. So new signings dont take time to gel or new managers for that fact?

Kiev made signings that's why it's a stupid argument. For example they signed Kaladze who went on to Milan after. They weren't the same side.

What bizarre logic.

For the record they were beaten in a playoff by semi-finalists Croatia after finishing 2 points behind Germany in their qualifying group finishing above Euro 2000 semi-finalists Portugal.

You said this

Breaching FFP rules to win league titles and cups including the period we played them in the league cup final. It’s everything that’s wrong with the game.

Therefore logically everything outside of this isn't wrong.

Except Croatia beat Germany at the World cup. You know Germany who won Ukraines group. So make your mind up are Germany good or bad?

financially yes. Which is what my point is referring to.

They were European Champions so I'd suggest they were decent, aye.

Weird that you didn't mention that.

It's all good, fella. I get the general gist just that that phrase is utter bollocks. It rears it's head when simulation and the salary level of footballers is mentioned, too.
