It does not have to be that way. Indeed up to the 1970’s it was not.

In Catalonia all provincial teams are satellites and share in the success of FC Barcelona to varying degrees. The only exception being Espanyol which was created by Franco has a Nationalist front to Barcelona. It only served as a rallying call for Barcelona to become the de facto team of the Catalans.

This region, similarly, should have a lot more collective pride in itself. Divisions only conquer us all.
