Been a similar sort of club for much of my lifetime, even if our history is greater. Mostly in the second tier, unfashionable and when doing well probably uncompromising.

Rory Delap is an obvious one who made an impression and the Pulis days. Part of the impression is because he spent time here and I don't think we utilised the long throw.

I just seem to recall most early Stoke games I went to being a total grind, usually a draw.

Only ever seen away support. Ok I suppose, not massive numbers and sometimes vocal.

Never been.

In my lifetime my favourite Stoke player was Ray Hudson - truly entertaining to watch.
And I think Tony Pulls did your team's reputation no end of harm, and I don't think you've recovered from it since. Mind, on the plus side, your home fans could certainly whip up an atmosphere!

Yeh spot on. There were a lot of FH books that told a few porkies. Not with the N40 book. Them lads were nails. Wolves always had trouble with them. Even remember being at a boozer pre match and the Coppers stopping a train with N40 on there heading our way. We wasn't even playing them!
Aey - they were mad mate
Probably one of the worst in the country

Hello folks – Stoke fan here in peace.

I work on the ‘Duck’ fanzine and I’m planning a different type of article for our next issue – out whenever something approaching normal matchdays return to our lives once more.

I aim to ask supporters of several clubs 5 questions about their perceptions of Stoke City in order a to create a big feature article“Us and Them.” For the following questions, feel free to answer in varied depth/ brevity but a couple of sentences at least for each is ideal:
  1. Generally how do you see Stoke City the club – a rival? Non-entity? Certain type of club? Disdain? Admiration? Pity?! As a fixture – is it of general appeal?
  2. Are there any Stoke players/ teams that have made an impression on you over the years?
  3. Are there matches between your team and Stoke you recall hating/ loving?
  4. In home / away matches, what have you made of the Stoke support? Any particular memories?
  5. The Victoria Ground/ The New One – what did/ do you make our of our home ground(s)’ the grounds? Any particular experiences or impressions?

Given our reputation over the years, this could be a risk but then again, it would be great if I could glean a diverse range of honest/diverse/ cutting/ funny/ serious or even complimentary views.

If you can be arsed, thanks for your time.

Take care of yourselves,
Lee Hawthorne @ORFYDUCKMAG
Oh dear. This is not easy.
1976 away was good fun, took loads, but as for rivalry we were the teams in the Premier no one wanted to watch.
I was on a stadium tour and Stoke's away support was cited as one of the reasons we moved the away section, because the empty seats behind the goal looked terrible.
Alan Hudson?

Do you mean Alan

1. Just another club however we have had some cracking results against you. Always play Port Vale more.
2. Can’t think of any. However Lou Macari was a legend for both our clubs.
3. The first ever game at the Britannia- Stoke 1 Swindon 2. Apparently Willie Carson with his high pitched voice after the game was running wild in the Boardroom shouting “We’ve ruined the party :)” Mick Mills demolition Swindon 6 Stoke 0 and Di Canio’s Swindon beating Stoke at the Britannia 4-3 AET scoring in the last seconds. Stoke were PL then and us Division Two.
Stoke 4 Swindon 0 and the score at halftime. We were already safe from relegation and a decent turn out from Swindon where Stoke took us apart but it didn’t matter as Bristol Rovers lost in the week keeping us up.
4. Always vocal are Stoke every game we have played against you.
5. Never visited the Victoria but like the new stadium.

Players I've admired over the years, Gordon Banks, Jimmy Greenhoff, Terry Conroy, Alan Hudson, Mike Pejic. Always thought of Stoke as a nothing club with bastard supporters causing trouble everytime I've seen them play, although not as bad as Rangers, Leeds, Liverpool or Portsmouth.

Nah, got beat 2-0 I think. 0-0 at the sending off

There was a game down there where we needed to win and won with ten men though, I swear it. Kieran Richardson heavily involved. Could be my memory blurring things.

Just checked and I think Im blurring about three games into one! That show's how memorable they all were...

... we beat them when they had ten. James McClean.

1. Meh, honestly really no interest in Stoke. Boring part of the country and I’m being polite there.
2. Walters and Crouch, not just decent footballers but decent people too.
3. I make it my mission to not remember games against Stoke, it’s Stoke for goodness sake, who cares.
4. Horrible fans which I get the impression Stoke fans are proud to be viewed like that.
5. Decent enough ground, nothing spectacular but it’ll do. Certainly not as good as the SOL.

To put all this into perspective, I enjoyed an away game at Shrewsbury far more than I did at Stoke and the results had nothing to do with it.

  1. Generally how do you see Stoke City the club – a rival? Non-entity? Certain type of club? Disdain? Admiration? Pity?! As a fixture – is it of general appeal? Lived in Hanley for 3 years so always look out for Stoke's results as have a few Stokie mates. That said, the hatred towards us over the years from the likes of the oatcake forum has dampened that a bit
  2. Are there any Stoke players/ teams that have made an impression on you over the years? - Rory Delap. Played for us for 1 or 2 seasons and I never saw him take a f***ing throw-in
  3. Are there matches between your team and Stoke you recall hating/ loving? - HATE: Feb 2011. We were 2-1 up and let you lot bully us. Keeper had a 'mare. LOVE: April 1998. Won 3-0 at home, I was in the South Stand next to the away fans. My 2 Stokie mates were basically sat next to me with just a bar dividing home and away fans
  4. In home / away matches, what have you made of the Stoke support? Any particular memories? Always pretty vocal at The Victoria Ground, reminded me of Roker Park. Haven't been to the Britannia. Always seem to come in healthy numbers and make some noise.
  5. The Victoria Ground/ The New One – what did/ do you make our of our home ground(s)’ the grounds? Any particular experiences or impressions? Loved the old Victoria Ground. Stood on the Boothen End many a time with my mates. Was there when Newcastle humped you 4-0 though and I was as pissed off as anyone in the Boothen that night.
I'm blurring that one with the Mclean one.
Won 1-0 away under MON. Pitch covered in snow. Awful game
