Places you felt most on edge in your life

Manor Park in London? I used to live in Manor Park in the late eighties, never had any bother at all, don't remember ever feeling particularly unsafe, definitely didn't see anyone fighting with samurai swords
Finsbury Park was a bit edge at night.
My vote was moss side when we went to see oasis at Maine road in 1996. But it doesn’t really compare to some of the other places that have been mentioned.
Had a mate lived in Cheetham Hill needed eyes up your arse to go there after dark.

Close House, half way between Coundon and Shildon.
Narrow road through the place at the best of times but I once had to stop the car as a delinquent horse was charging up the road towards me. I was utterly convinced that the car wasn't going to stand in it's way as the thing looked batshit mental. It was genuinely one of those scenarios where just before it belted into the car, it swerved and went round.
Not strictly on the exact thread topic, but Close House would still be a sufficiently valid answer without the horse. And I'm from Coundon.

Heading back into Rome centre from Olympic stadium after Newcastle match there years back wasn’t fun.

Olympic stadium in Rome is another one for me, Roma vs CSKA Moscow in the champions league a couple of year ago had a horrible feel around the ground and it was kicking off in numerous places, police had the water canon truck out
Parts of Moscow and Riga were dodgy as fuck

Lagos is a bit unsettling

I’m surprised about Riga

Centre of Warsaw during Euro 2012 as the Russians marched through en route to the stadium. You could cut the atmosphere with a knife.

In Balikpapan I was 'rescued' from a situation in a bar by two Filipino deck crewmen from the ship I was on. They said "we'll kill him if you want". I was shocked and said "no". They just shrugged and said "he'd have killed you, no big deal" and that was it. That's how cheap life is in some places. An eye-opener for me. Their easiest way to end an argument.

Knocking around Lapa in Rio post midnight and pissed was a bit weird. Was glad to get back to the hostel after that.

Aye, I'd say until Id had a few I felt a bit wary one night there. Although tbh, that was more because the missus was convinced we would get robbed.

By the mid 2000s I can assure you it was , look on any discussion about most dangerous part of London and it crops up. Very few people stay there a long time so its mainly troubled families who move in and the ones who do well get out as soon as they can

Going to Naples on the circumvesuviana train. It was absolutely jam packed so we were squashed in like sardines. Some pervy bloke was standing behind me and kept rubbing himself against me. I caught the attention of another bloke who realised what was going on and then another bloke joined in giving the perv bloke a verbal bollocking in Italian. I don't know what they said but the perv bloke sheepishly got off at the next stop. I felt uncomfortable for the rest of the journey though.

Tenderloin in San Francisco is grim. It’s really central too, so one minute you’re beside some nice building, then you take a wrong street and you’re in an absolute hell hole. It was getting dark when we were there too. We hurried away.
One of the most horrendous places I've been. My first ever trip there, was in a meeting at this company close by. I'd got the taxi from the hotel to this place but decided I'd walk back/grab a taxi if I needed to. I must have just lost my bearings completely. It really does go from hipsterville to mad max in a block. I had a briefcase with me too  , what a wanker. Thing is though, once you're in there are no taxis either so you have to either go back or get through, dodging the street poo. Awful, v scary sitting here thinking back on it

Easterhouse Glasgow, stayed with a good m8 who I met through work, f***ing scary as owt, Sinn Fein collection boxes in the pubs, midnight watched a fight from bedroom window on a motorway, they had samurai swords!!! Kept being asked if I was a squaddie and my m8 had to keep answering for me cos they hated the English nearly as much as Protestants. It was f***ing awful.
Is that up in the north west? Went through there and ower the Erskine Bridge into Old Kilpatrick(?). Stopped at a pub for coffee and it was a well edgy atmosphere. The barmaids drive us four miles along the cycle path so we could camp without getting our heads kicked in.

It's an odd place. Atmosphere changed so quickly once it got late, shit loads of homeless people as well. Great night out though, just make sure you head off before it gets too late!

We just made sure we had nothing apart from the money for the night and dressed down. Seen some Americans knocking about with flash jewellery on etc. Sitting ducks in the wrong company. Great place mind, atmosphere was class, and that includes a bit of edge. Santa Teresa/Lapa is ridiculously cool. Some of the old disused mansions  Great how the poorer folk have the best views.
