Worst Sacking of a Manager at Sunderland

I thought Malcolm Crosby being sacked after the pools panel awarded a defeat was particularly harsh.
Bob Murray never wanted to give him the job. He bowed to fan/media pressure when MC got us to the cup final

In hindsight, the MON sacking was harsh (that said, the football that season was f***ing awful)

He was a reader of individuals, not a bully. He'd never bollock Robson or Cantona. He didnt even give Cantona a telling off when he booted that fan in the face. Few actually have a bad word to say about Fergie. Di Canio on the otherhand managed us for a few games and managed to shun the kitchen staff, let alone the players.
He pissed everyone off, he was universally unliked. Add in the absolutely abysmal performances and I still wonder why people like the fucker.

PDC was left high and dry by the clubs hierarchy but he was bat shot crazy. Don’t think he tried to rule by fear though, he simply wanted the players to be professional.

On Ferguson though, he did rule the young kids by fear but even then he recruited a whole raft of lieutenants throughout his tenure that ran the dressing room and set the standards. He was the stick at the end of the that.

He knew how to psychologically put a dressing room together that would rule itself and spit out the weak...his powers waned when money and agents changed the game.

I thought at the time that Dennis Smith could have been a successful manager and was sacked too early. Time clouds your judgement like.
I’m more recent times. I liked Poyet and thought he got us playing some decent stuff .
Agree Dennis Smith for me totally starved of funds.

In retrospect it was a bit premature to get rid of Cloughie so early in his coaching/managerial career. He was doing well with the youth team and I wish we'd hung on to him for another 30 years or so!
Who got rid of him? McColl? Clough wasn’t even Catholic as far as I’m aware, which seemed to be McColl’s usual isolation reason.

That Villa game had to be the end for Poyet. 4-0, it was pathetic. I think he knew he was a goner. The 8-0 fucked him up before that.
