It looks terrible when people pointlessly stream out at 80 minutes though. There’s far more do that than arrive late. I’ve always understood people that leave early when we’re getting humped but when the game is in the balance...It looks shite to everyone, and it’s just strange to leave before you know the final result. If people aren’t bothered about that I’d genuinely wonder why you’d bother going.

Couldn't give a toss how it looks. The stadium is hardly full anyway. I do honestly get your sentiments mate and fully understand what youre saying. Ive had season ticket since '88, enjoy going. 5 years ago I would have never have done it. Maybe age factor has something to do with it........ or watching shite mostly......or enjoying post match pints.

sometimes enough is enough.............

At end of day mate its everyone to their own. If you've paid good money to get in its up to you when you leave

I wonder how many of the critics on here switch off their tellys early?
Fair play for actually responding with your reasons like an adult unlike a certain other poster. Personally I don't like it for a variety of reasons explained previously on this thread.

So do you only leave when dissatisfied with the performance? I'm only asking as I would genuinely be interested to know if there is anything the club or fans groups can do to reduce early leaving. Is there anything outside of what happens on the grass that would make you stay til the end more often?

Before anyone says, I know you don't have to justify yourself to me or anyone else, and you pay your money it's your choice etc. Just interested and want to be adult about it.
Why have I been tagged into this thread?
You're shagging someone else's lass apparently. Possibly pretending to be @WBibby whose name isn't Bibby barmpot. But he can get your IP address and message you. Allegedly. Or something like that

Quite a few left at around 82 minutes. Daft.
Sometimes, that is all it takes to send transmit complacency to the pitch.

it’s not so much ‘Sunderland till I die’ these days as ‘Sunderland till 85 minutes and then get the early bus to be home for dinner’

News to me 😂

I’m guessing he is now banned?

Yesterday I left on 86 mins, because I was going out on the lash and had to be home before 17:15 for the taxi.
Other than yesterday if I leave early it’s a choice based on years of watching the lads and now not caring too much about loyalty.
Fed up of watching shit now and it’s more about the social element than the 90+ mins.
My time is precious, and i now realise what’s important to me and staying til the end certainly isn’t in my thoughts if I’ve had enough.
Sometimes I do stay sometimes I don’t, I wouldn’t have left early 10 years ago, but times change and my attitude to SAFC has also.
Enjoyment on a sat is my overall decision maker, if it’s an early pint so be it.
Apologies if it upsets people but I’m not guna change.

So it seems some of us come to the match to support the lads and some just come for the chat and beers with the actual game being unimportant. Not sure I go for that, I think that’s just a self defence mechanism from the latter.
My bus home is 5.00 or 5.20 and more often than not I miss the 5.00 because I stay to the end and wait in a queue to get down the steps to get out of the ground .
Next bus 5.20 so I accept that’s my timescale for getting home. What difference does 20 minutes make all in all ?

When I attend Home Matches it is not solely to watch the football. ie go straight to stadium, watch match, and then go home. To me it is more of a social occasion. Have a couple of pints beforehand and a couple afterwards, in recent years the 90 minutes inbetween has probably been the least enjoyable part of day. I will never drive to match. I have no real need to leave early, my time is my own.

I used to sit in Premier Concourse and was really happy sitting there, easy to get out of stadium, go for a piss etc etc and when sitting there, yes, there have been occasions in the last 5 years when Ive left early. Not all the time. I guess the main reasons ten because I was a bit fed up with watching shite and would just return to boozer

However, since being kicked out of Concourse (fully understand why they closed it) have relocated in East Stand at very top (our choice). The 1st matchday experience I had in that seat when I stayed to end I kid you not it took me at least 10 minutes to get out of stadium. This pissed me of (but theres no real excuse for me staying to end and grinning and baring it). Stayed to the end for a couple of more matches then decided, partly due to crap that was being served up on pitch, and partly because I felt like another drink in the sanctuary of the boozer, I have now got into the habit of leaving early. If the game was end to end football and was on a knife edge I would stay.

I do not arrive late. I do not leave my seat early to get a half time pint (dont bother with drink in Stadium)

Those are all the factors for me leaving early, no real excuses (can role in at home anytime I want))

Purely personal choice mate

I think this is it.
There is so much apathy atm.
Folk go to the match for something to do, see some mates, and out of habit, but some are definitely not as bothered as they used to be.
Footy is all about last minute goals, to get a win or draw, and when you leave before that could happen it's cos you're not that arsed about seeing it happen.
More would stay if we were playing the mags, as the apathy wouldn't be there, but gillingham and Fleetwood, I can understand why a lot of folk aren't really arsed

I find it strange people using time as a factor. It's 10 minutes. If you've left because the football is shite then was it not shite for the other 80 minutes?

Without doubt people are free to do as they please , but yesterday would have been a massive 3 points . It is always stated by players and management that the crowd can help their cause, especially to a home advantage.

If it was the last home game of the season with an ultimate decision on where we finish , it’s hard to believe so many would depart early . Yet, points dropped or gained at any stage can be correctly cited for success or failure.

Would the will of 10000 extra fans help the players over the line in cases like yesterday, or not ? Genuine question.

Is there form or arrogance involved in leaving a 2-1 lead because we feel we should be above league one status and are therefore unlikely to concede again ? I know people left early in the prem too, so this isn’t a rhetorical question.

Ultimately it’s up to the individual, but for me it’s a no no whatever the score. If the lads win a hard fought game , is it not worth showing appreciation at the end , that may just help with confidence and spirit for the following week ?

These are dire times as Sunderland fan. We have three choices . Try and help with support for what it’s worth, show disgust and dismay or just be apathetic.

That's your opinion, not mine and after 45 years of following SAFC I come first with what I want to do with my time.
If I miss a goal, so be it, shit happens.
For me it's a social event, purely and simply.
It's a time to meet the lads, have a few beers and some banter.
Life is short, as I get older I realise what's important, each to there own but your comments have no place in my world.
I understand your point and fair game to you, I just don't relate to most of your points above.

Spot on mate

Mate we are averaging 30k and selling out away games for a second season in the 3rd tier .
I’m amazed folk think that a few thousand leaving early is the reason aren’t blitzing this league

I’m 51 and as the previous poster said my time and priorities have changed from what is was in my younger days .
My weekends are no longer ruined by the score . In fact the result used to influence my whole week when I was younger.
Not now.

That’s a fair comment
When we had the good times under Reidy & had the Sol packed every week it took 10 mins to have everyone in their seat
10 mins before half time there’s loads streaming out
10 mins after half time the stadium is full again
5 - 10 mins before the final whistle theres folk heading for the exit
unbelievable
Yes, watch live televised games at other grounds and 5 or 6 minutes before half time and no one has moved for their half time pint. Our bars must be the slowest service in the country eh😉
