Warwickshire C.C. annual profit

Just announced that they made an operating profit of £6.2 million for 2019.
I suppose we'll done to them and everybody raves about the atmosphere at Edgbaston for big games. But my experience is that the fabled Hollis stand is just full of drunks not that interested in the cricket. But you have to say their policy has certainly worked financially.

Agree about the drunks, totally spoil the day and the reason I rarely go to test cricket in this country. Mind you went to a Durham 20/20 on a Friday night last year and it wasn’t much better where I was sitting, young dad had to move his kids the language was that bad.

Good to see its possible for teams outside of London to make good profits, id be interested to see how they go about raising there income outside of cricket matches.

People generally go to cricket to have some fun, why is it an issue for people to have a drink, theres plenty of seating at Durham to pick the most appropriate place to sit at a 20/20 and ay england games there are no drinking sections and generally they are the ones that have tickets left.

Never get why people moan about certain parts of the ground being a bit lively, it's not like it's any great secret or should be a big surprise. Fair enough if someone is being an arse in a family area though. I'm in the Hollies for day three of the WI test like.

To me it’s a question of balance, of course people like a very good atmosphere and most people enjoy a drink at the cricket, I know I always have.

However must admit when went to the T20 at the riverside against the West Indies about 18 months ago, about 5 young lads behind totally off their heads not interested remotely in the cricket, all they did was scream abuse at the fielders on the boundary all game, nothing racial just constant all game swearing loudly, totally spoilt it for me, and what made it worse was when a elderly couple moved becuase of it.

Nothing wrong with enjoying yourself but they were complete wankers imo.

Agree but I suppose it's a matter of whether those ignorami are the exception rather than the rule. I can understand stewards not wishing to confront them but such behaviour needs to be nipped in the bud. Ideally all areas should be family areas. Confine the drinking area to one area and make sure it's heavily policed. If any persist with disorder they can be identified by their seat number and ticket applications refused in future. Alcohol= income, however, but if the authorities are serious about making cricket family welcoming they need to address the issue seriously.

Suppose it’s like anything mate, you will always have people in all sorts of events who when they have a drink rather than just enjoy themselves and the event, for some reason unknown to myself have to turn aggressive and angry.

Sad but unfortunately true!

I agree with that but at places like Edgbaston on the big occasions it feels like the cricket is of secondary importance to people getting smashed on an all dayer and being encouraged to act like it's a massive stag do. T20 finals day is just one massive p#ss up.

I’ve been in the ‘noisy bit’ of CLS/ Headingley loads of times and don’t think there’s an issue at all. No doubt at some point you get someone being a knob/ racist but unfortunately you’ll get that somewhere in any big crowd. Generally it’s all really good natured.

Cricket has a rep of being middle class and boring so if the Hollies going daft/ chanting helps break that myth a bit it’s got to help the game in its mission to be ‘cooler’.

Nothing wrong with chanting; constant ironic applause directed at Lyons every time he caught the ball in the match after he missed that crucial run out was most amusing. Of course you'll get the odd low life shouting obscenities and/or making racists remarks,it should be actioned against just as it would be in any other public place.

Problem is we are banned from hosting test matches which is why we are forced into hosting Buble, Little Mix and Westlife. It's imperative folk get behind the club & support in whatever was possible. Whether that's via a ticket purchase, a shirt purchase or concert ticket.

Not at all. Even if we weren't banned and even if we were making money from Tests the club would still host Buble etc. they'd maximise revenue from every source. They've got to and it makes sense. SAFC also put on concerts.

There must be about 8 or so different stands to choose from at Edgbaston.
It’s obvious where the pissheads are going to go- the cheapest one

Yes but at grounds like Edgbaston it is encouraged and they even get priority
That is definitely the Case for T20 finals day where so many of the tickets are sold before the 4 semi Finalist are known.
No problem with people having A good drink but when the cricket can be of 2nd importance the game has s problem.

I agree but that is kind of what comes with the territory for t20. It attracts people that aren't massive cricket fans and also makes it a more football style atmosphere. People complain that cricket isn't evolving and attracting new fans and then when they do that with t20 bringing in groups of lads on the piss which in turn attracts decent profits you get complaints about that.

The pissheads add to the occasion though.

I know cricket has far more about it as a sport but imagine the PDC darts being played in an empty silent room. No one would watch on TV.

You could say that about the World Darts mate- Effectively indoor piss up instead of out

This, it’s the same principle as many other sports. Rightly or wrongly sports need people on the piss to survive. I doubt many people at York races on Saturdays in July give a fuck about the racing. It’s all a day out, same for the darts and t20s tap into that crowd to an extent. Nothing wrong with it and if you have your wits about you just go in a different stand, it’s not that hard.
