Our cross field long passing tonight

Its not that difficult for blokes who ping balls about on a daily basis. Decent passes but it's far easier to do when the opposition barely close you down. They were incredibly poor tonight.

Fuck me man why are people so defensive? It's far easier to spray balls about when you're barely pressed. It's not that difficult to understand.
What about against Ipswich then ??? Still managed them all game

Luke O’Nein put a few glorious cross field balls in with his left foot as well as his right tonight!

They must be working on it in training, certainly more noticeable this evening for me.
It really is refreshing to see that Parky and his team are actually coaching the lads and improving them.

Easy against a side who didn't press us (sorry for mentioning the opposition)
As Rochdale didn't press last night, the long passing was even more difficult, as the space between the passer and the target was negligible. Impressive IMO.
The sideways long balls have been noticeable the last few games like. Always an added bonus when you’ve got a player with a cracking first touch to control it, both Hume and Onien fit that perfectly.
Absolutely spot on

You just don't get it do you.
I can see where he’s coming from to be fair.

When teams are warming up before the game they are regularly pinging the ball 50 yards up the field straight to the feet of their team mate.

If you pressure them then they won’t be able to regularly do it. Since we weren’t getting pressured off them last night, it meant the likes of Power and Dobson had a lot of time to take aim.

In some ways if the opposition press you it can be easier to play those passes due to their being more space on the pitch. I assume Rochdale's plan was to accept their inferior technical ability and try to soak up the pressure with a low block. It didn't work mind, and in general we've struggled more against a higher press.

Yes being given time and space all over the pitch really made it difficult. Not knocking us for making those passes, far from it, but let's not get carried away. Rochdale were absolutely abysmal.

Not at this level. Ipswich pressed us all over the pitch 1st half on Saturday and we barley strung a pass together. A decent press against average players really negates them

Rochdale just say back last night and barely pressed us anywhere in the pitch. Easily the worst side we've faced this season. Even Southend and Bolton made it much more difficult for us. We absolutely strolled through that game last night.

We can only play what's in front of us obviously. We're in this league for a reason, but for once, and for a change, we look like we're trying to play our way through games rather than just hit and hope.

Was it bailey wright who hit that one to O'nien in the lead up to the third goal? that was quality

Then why bother? Doesn't matter who the opposition is, they had the ability to play the long ball accurately to a team mate. It isn't easy man, it's a skill and our players are using it to good effect. Don't knock it, enjoy it!
Last night perhaps - there's been plenty of times they've tried and failed. Some of Power's long balls when he starts thinking he's Steven Gerrard are absolutely woeful.
