Slavery was endemic throughout Africa and you'd struggle to find many places around the world where they didn't have the stain of slavery at some period in their history

It is a little anachronistic that we still appoint people to be Members of the British Empire like.
Plus It’s not called an ‘Empire’ but the USA came into being through a combination of slavery plus the subjugation and then total annihilation of a number of indigenous peoples across almost an entire continent.
