Don't think it would make any difference if we were in the Prem TBH mate.
I think it does. They used to stay because they didn't need to move around the country, they played for a good academy and had more chances of getting in a side like Sunderland and become PL players rather than fighting with all the wonderkids at top clubs and getting loaned for years in the lower leagues.
Now the academy is a shambles and the best they can do is getting into a League 1 squad, so still into obscurity.

No they can refuse. Any club that is refused permission to speak to an academy player cannot then return and ask again. This is all very clear.

They can. But let's be honest it'll never happen. They are in a position where they simply cannot say no.

The club has to give permission to the buying club to even speak to the parents. Without that permission then Man U can’t do anything at all. People seem to forget this.

Lots of backchannel ways to get the word across. Kid then goes to the club and says I want out.

So you’re saying that both the club and the player have acted illegally then?

They literally can. Read the rules for fucks sake.

Rules 296-299 specifically state that a club cannot directly or indirectly approach an academy player.

We're going to keep on losing talented players while there is no clear path for them to get a chance in the first team. Bali Mumba for example has stuck around with what i'm assuming is the promise that he would get a chance this season and instead he's been stuck in an abysmal U23 side that has 1 point from 15 games. We need to start finding loans for more of our youngsters or find a way of getting them blooded into the first team earlier or we're going to continue to lose players.
This. He should have been loaned out last season.

Asset stripping at its finest.

The sooner Donald, Reid and the rest of these clowns are gone the better.

For all those who say there is nothing we can do, that's nonsense. There is everything we can do. Theses lads and our players, we dont have to allow them to move. We can refuse permission to speak to other clubs. We can report other clubs for tapping up if permission isnt given. We can sell a clear vision to these lads with a clear pathway to the first team.

No Donald is happy to take the minimum compensation.

These lads were the future of our club and the long term damage of the academy will take years to fix

If they're too young to sign a professional contract (which i believe this lad was), then no, theres not a lot you can do. He's free to move where he wants.

It's all well and good selling our vision of getting into the first team at League one Sunderland, but Man U are the best academy in the country. Of course he will go.

I don't. He's 20 and has been with SAFC for a good few years. He was signed as top flight potential. In 2017, he was playing for the England U20s at the age of 18, having already represented the U17, U18 and U19. FYI, the other scorer in the U20's semi final in June 2017 was Harvey Barnes, currently ripping up premier league defenders with Leicester. He's a little bit older, but at 20, he was playing in the Championship regularly for Barnsley on loan, before playing for WBA on loan the following season.

Can you honestly say I'm not being harsh when one is a regular for the 3rd placed club in England and the other cant even get a game for a mid-table 3rd tier side?
I couldn't give a toss about Harvey Barnes, you said Embleton isn't near league one standard. Given that he's been injured most of the season then yes, I think you are being harsh

It is very concerning that we are losing so many kids.

I was reading last night that man united are considering paying 30 million for one of Birmingham's kids. Think hes due to.sign his first professional contract in the summer for them.

I'm not saying for one second that any of our kids are worth 30 million but something doesnt tally up with what's happening there and what's happening at our place.

Can’t blame Donald for what has been happening for years. Still nothing has changed? You have to loan the special youngsters out if they’re not playing for the first team.

Jude Bellingham is apparently the same age as Pye, yet he’s commanding a 30 million fee and Pye goes for less than 100k? How’s that right, given some whopper said you can’t offer him a deal?

Embleton may not have the drive of Harvey Barnes, but he’s had injuries to contend with, and a poorly ran club.

Really is shocking that we don’t sound like we’re bringing any young players in, that’s the worst part. Why can’t we sign the best from the teams below, that’s all United and Arsenal do?

Lack of scouting network is criminal, we don’t even look abroad for signings anymore.

If it was asset stripping at its finest he would just shut the academy, that would save a hell of a lot more than £50k here and there (I'm not happy with players leaving)

Very sad to see another highly rated young player leave. For me it's one of the worst things about our current predicament, looks like we've lost a handful of players who could go on to have top careers. Under no illusions that they would have left at some point anyway to further their career but it would have been canny to see them initially develop like JH/JP.
