Pep wants League Cp scrapped

Its nowhere near as big as the FA Cup - I'm not really sure why we bother having 2 different cups that basically amount to the same thing.

Open it up to clubs that have not qualified for European group stage competition. Simple.

If there is an uneven number of teams then invite teams who were recently relegated from the football league in the first round

Hmm fair point but the real fans would've been there. Lots of people (like myself) dream of seeing Sunderland win a major trophy, getting rid of League Cup would make that more difficult.
I of course agree with the second point

but it’s a competition with low crowds where a lot of teams play the kids.

not the comp it was sadly

I think it's becoming more and more unrealistic for teams outside the usual suspects in the PL to win any sort of cup. Apart from Wigan and Portsmouth you have to go back a long way for when a team outside the big 6 won the FA cup.

Does anyone know the reason why it was initially introduced (in the 60s I think)??

Floodlights had opened up the possibility of midweek football. The FA viewed European football as a threat and didn't want English teams playing at first. The Football League saw it is a way to replace the revenue from falling post war attendances around the country. The interests aligned the League Cup was created.
