Genuinely gutted by this. Obviously too young to have seen him play but he’s superb on Sky Sports. It always made a poor england performance more bearable knowing Bob was on a long run and was ready with a ‘welllllll Charles’

Cricketing punditry on sky has already lost a lot this year with Gower and Botham leaving, but this is awful.

Very sad. Too young to see him live but have seen highlights and he was a quality bowler. Also superb in the commentary box.

I witnessed his finest hour on that final day at Headingley in 1981 against the Aussies.
He was superb that day.

Sad in some ways that his finest hour was overshadowed by even greater superhuman brilliance from Ian Botham.

(Except that we stuffed the Aussies, so it was all good).
