pathetic but not surprising at all. root needs to sort it out and fast.
What happened
Possibly .ThatsCould this be another one where the last pair get us a small lead then get through to the last two overs to save the game.
Is there room in the modern game for a Brearley-like captain who, while not being a test-standard batsman/bowler, can get the best out of his team?
People have continually blamed our bowlers. But the reason we have lost these 4 games is not not scoring 600 in games where that was clearly achievable.

Maybe. That's why I like Burns. Very good country captain by all accounts. He isn't awful with the bat either, is he?
He is just coming to terms with test cricket.Dont burden him with captaincy.Maybe. That's why I like Burns. Very good country captain by all accounts. He isn't awful with the bat either, is he?

That's the argument I would expect and its a fair one. However name a candidate and their will be just as good a reason not to select them. Who would your choice be? I think I would probably persevere with Root just because their is no realistic option and hope that a) He turns it around or b) Burns consolidates his place for a few more tests and then takes over the captaincy.
I think both batsmen and bowlers can take some of the blame. Today was a new low. The shots played by Root, Pope, Stokes, Buttler, Archer and to some extent the openers were truly abysmal accepting that Pope, Sibley, Archer can have some degree of leeway. Flat pitch, no Trent Bould, 8 wickets between Wagner and Santner. It doesnt get much worse tbh. Even before today our inability to score big when conditions are easy and inability to get teams out on flat pitches were highlighted clearly.
Taken a boosted bet from Skybet. England to win, have highest 1st Innings opening partnership and take a first innings lead. Boosted to 6-1 from 4-1.
Decent start in that respect. Looked a good bet as soon as we won the toss. I will take 600 in this first innings by the end of the morning session on the 3rd day![]()
